Summit-Ironville Fire Department

Summit-Ironville Fire Department Summit-Ironville was organized in 1974. Our first piece of apparatus was a 1953 international pumper that was yellow in color.

It was acquired from Fayette county, KY fire department for one dollar. At the time we did not have a formal fire station, so the engine was stored at a local Kentucky Farmers Bank drive-thru on US RT 60 (the drive-thru was part of the building and had garage doors on both ends). We also had a 1949 Jeep donated by the federal prison system of Ashland, KY. Prior to our departments formation the pri

son had their own in-house fire department. Even during the first several years the prison's department trained with our department and even responded to assist on some calls. They disbanded their department in the early 1980's and we took over full firefighting responsibility for the prison property. In 1975, a two-bay station was built on Summit Road to house our apparatus. Almost all work on the station was done by members free of charge (the building currently is a small office complex). Our current station which has six bays that holds our apparatus as well as having recreation, training, storage, office space, kitchen, and a hose drying tower was completed. It also has a large parking area that we also utilize for training drills. Mutual Aid System
During the years we, as with most volunteer departments, have struggled with staffing issues. In the early 1990's, our department signed an Automatic Mutual Aid Agreement with our neighboring department Westwood Fire Department Station 96. Through this agreement all structures fires in our district or Westwood dispatch will automatically alert both departments to the call. With this agreement the department providing the mutual aid sends an engine co. & tanker. In 2005, we signed an Automatic Mutual Aid Agreement with Canonsburg Fire Department Station 94. Through this agreement we automatically respond to all reported structure fires in Canonsburg North of the Interstate 64 with an engine co. & tanker. In turn they will respond mutual aid to us with engine, tanker, ladder, or rescue upon our request. We are always accepting applications for volunteers. If youโ€™re looking for a war to give back to your community, look at joining the fire dept.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ A Community United in Support of Our Troops ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today, the members of the Summit Ironville Fire Department were deeply honored to help lead and es**rt the brave soldiers of the Army National Guard 201st Battalion FSC and HHC to Huntington Tri-State Airport as they begin their overseas deployment.

Alongside the dedicated members of the Patriot Guard Riders Kentucky, several fire departments, the Boyd County Sheriff's Office, and Emergency Management, we witnessed something truly specialโ€”a community coming together to show unwavering support for the men and women who have answered the call to serve our nation.

As these soldiers leave behind their families, friends, careers, and the comforts of home, they carry with them the strength, pride, and gratitude of the communities they protect. The sight of so many people standing together in support was a powerful reminder that while they may be traveling thousands of miles away, they will never walk alone.

To every soldier deploying today: thank you. Thank you for your courage, your selfless sacrifice, and your commitment to defending the freedoms we often take for granted. Your willingness to stand watch over our nation is an inspiration to us all.

To the families left behind: we recognize your sacrifice as well. The strength, resilience, and love you show while supporting your service members does not go unnoticed. You serve alongside them in your own way, and our thoughts and prayers are with you throughout this deployment.

May God watch over these brave men and women, grant them strength for the mission ahead, protect them from harm, and bring each of them safely home to the arms of their loved ones.

Please join us in keeping these soldiers and their families in your thoughts and prayers. It is always a privilege to support our troops, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make today's es**rt possible.

From all of us at Summit Ironville Fire Department: stay strong, stay safe, and know that your community stands proudly behind you. We will be here, flags flying and hearts full of gratitude, ready to welcome every one of you home.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ God Bless Our Troops. God Bless Their Families. God Bless the United States of America. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ”ฅ NATIONAL EMS WEEK ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš‘

This week, the members of Summit Ironville Fire Department want to recognize and thank ALL EMS providers for the dedication, sacrifice, and lifesaving work they do every single day. Whether itโ€™s the middle of the night, a holiday, or during someoneโ€™s worst moment โ€” these men and women answer the call without hesitation.

We are incredibly fortunate to work alongside some of the absolute best in the business with our brothers and sisters at Boyd County Emergency Medical Services. The teamwork between fire and EMS is something special, and weโ€™re proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with these professionals every day.

Today we especially want to recognize our very own members who not only serve our community through the fire department, but also dedicate their careers to EMS.

๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’™ National Police Week ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš”

During National Police Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank all of the dedicated law enforcement officers who serve and protect our communities each and every day. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

At Summit Ironville Fire Department, we are extremely thankful for the strong working relationships we share with the Boyd County Sheriff's Office and Kentucky State Police Post 14. These partnerships allow all of us to work together with one common goal โ€” protecting and better serving our community.

This week, we especially want to recognize three of our very own members who proudly serve not only as firefighters, but also as law enforcement officers.

๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Captain Angela N Steve Lake
Captain Lake has been a member of Summit Ironville Fire Department since 2015. He began his career in law enforcement in 2008 as a patrolman and currently serves as a Major with the Boyd County Sheriffโ€™s Department. His leadership, dedication, and years of service continue to make a tremendous impact both on and off the fireground.

๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Firefighter Seth Hatfield
Seth has been a member of our department since 2021. He started his law enforcement career in 2016 and currently serves as a patrolman with the Boyd County Sheriffโ€™s Department. His commitment to serving others and protecting our community is something we are proud to stand beside every day.

๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Firefighter Nathaniel Porter
Nathan joined Summit Ironville Fire Department in 2020 and began his law enforcement career in 2024. He currently serves as a K9 Officer with the Kenova Police Department alongside his incredible K9 partner, Stark. Their dedication, teamwork, and service deserve tremendous recognition and appreciation.

To these men โ€” and to all law enforcement officers โ€” thank you for the long hours, the sacrifices, the difficult calls, and the unwavering commitment to keeping our communities safe. We are proud to serve beside you.

Please join us in showing appreciation and support for all law enforcement officers during National Police Week. ๐Ÿ’™
