Each May, our nation comes together to honor the courage, sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers. Originally established by presidential proclamation President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and a week of observances recognizing officers who given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage.

National Police week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice and family.

Warm weather means more motorcycles on Ohio roads. 🏍️ In the past several years, nearly 20,000 motorcycle‑involved crashes have occurred statewide. Protect yourself by wearing a helmet and proper protective gear every ride. The right equipment can make all the difference in a crash.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, creating "National Correctional Officers' Week". Each year, the first full week in May is recognized as National Correctional Officers' and Employees Week, commemorating the contributions for correctional officers and personnel who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the country who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who continue to face the daily dangers
and challenges within their respective facilities.

Sheriff Kurt J. Schneider and the entire Ashland County Sheriff's Office will observe and celebrate National Correctional Officers' Week in recognition of the excellent work the Ashland County Corrections staff is doing to keep our County safe. When you have the opportunity to see one of them, please let them know how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication to excellence.

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨
If you receive something like the notice pictured below claiming to be from an Ohio court demanding immediate payment… go ahead and file it under FAKE NEWS 📰❌
These are circulating and are NOT legitimate court documents. They’re designed to scare you into paying quickly—usually through a QR code or unofficial link.
🚩 Red flags on this one:
🔹 It says “Municipal Court of the County of Franklin” Franklin County is the Columbus area, not Ashland.
🔹 Generic language listing multiple unrelated violations
🔹 “FINAL NOTICE” and “IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED” pressure tactics
🔹 QR code for payment (don't scan it)
🔹 No clear, verifiable court contact information.
💡 Reality check: Courts don’t operate like this. You will not get a random “final notice” demanding payment through a scan code.
And just to clear this up…
👉 Neither the Sheriff's Office nor the Police will notify you by text, email, or letter that you have a warrant.
👉 If it were true… we much prefer handling that in person. 😎

If you ever question something like this, contact your Local Court, Police Department or Sheriff's Office directly by using a verified number from their web page or phonebook (If you still have one of those.) Do not call the number that is listed on the document.
