Our vision is to create a united and resilient community where everyone belongs and everyone thrives. We mobilize and support a robust network of people, partners, and resources to co-create opportunities for every person in our community to live free from poverty and injustice. From crisis response to long-term recovery, resilience is a community effort.

From investment breakdowns to volunteers in action, future preparedness, and powerful partnerships, community resiliency is at the heart of everything we do.

Whether responding to the devastation of Hurricane Helene or preparing for whatever comes next, our work takes a multi-pronged approach to strengthening our community for the long term.

Read more about how we’re building resilience together in our 2024–2025 Annual Report. 💙

When Asheville Middle School needed support in their garden—specifically some serious weeding—it was a job that couldn’t wait.

Through our Community Schools network, we put out a call for help, and our volunteer network showed up in a big way.

On a Saturday morning, a dedicated group of volunteers came together to dig in, clear out overgrowth, and help restore the space so it can remain welcoming, cared for, and ready for students to enjoy.

This is what community looks like in action: people responding when a school needs support and stepping in to make a tangible difference.

If you’re looking for ways to get involved, opportunities like this are always posted through Hands On Asheville-Buncombe: https://www.handsonasheville.org/

Our 2025 Annual Report is here!

Inside, you'll find stories of impact, a look at our financial stewardship, and a vision for where we're headed together. Most importantly, you'll see what happens when a community comes together around a shared belief: that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

From strengthening Youth Opportunity to building Community Resiliency and investing in Community Engagement, this report captures the people, partnerships, and progress that defined the past year—and the momentum carrying us into the future.

We'll be sharing stories from the report throughout the coming weeks, but you can explore the full report today and see the impact you've helped make possible:

People from across the nation stepped up to support our community following the devastation of Hurricane Helene. And you, our neighbors, led the way. We have a long road ahead of us, but we will be st

We just closed out our TENTH year of working with local educators to provide a welcoming space for families of K-12 students to connect with community and teachers, receive academic support, and enjoy a free, healthy meal
Community Nights are done for the year, but we'll be back again in September.
This school year, with support from local donors and grants such as the one from Food Lion Feeds, we served nearly 7,000 people in our community.

We appreciate Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation for helping our community provide access to nutritious food and address food insecurity. The Foundation provided a $4,000 Nourishing our Neighbors grant to support local families

It may be mid-week, but we’re still buzzing from our Community Impact Awards Dinner.

This gathering is one of the most meaningful nights of the year for United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County—an evening dedicated to celebrating the partners, volunteers, funders, staff, and community members who make this work possible.

From powerful connections across our network to heartfelt recognition of those who have gone above and beyond this past year, the evening was a true reflection of what community looks like in action: people showing up for one another and building something stronger together.

We invite you to explore the award winners and view the full photo gallery from the night here:https://www.unitedwayabc.org/incredible-impact-and-visionary-dreams-uwabcs-community-impact-awards
