Today we are remembering Captain Marvin Lancaster - a man who dedicated his life to the service of others as a devoted fireman with the City of Hendersonville Fire Department. Over the course of 30 years, he rose through the ranks from firefighter to Captain of his station crew, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community. Afterward, he worked an additional 10 years as an Inspector for the Henderson County Fire Marshal. His commitment to his work was unwavering, and he was known for his courage, leadership, and kindness.

Marvin - We thank you for faithfully serving our community for so many years and for brightening so many of our lives along the way.

Installation of a playable, musical sculpture will occur on the Reed Creek Greenway near the corner of Catawba Street in summer of 2026 🎨🎵

As part of Asheville's One Percent for Public Art Policy, one percent of funds for the LEED certified Broadway Public Safety Station went towards the creation of a new piece of public art. After putting out a call for artists, the City of Asheville commissioned Nick Geurts and Alex Irvine to design the art installation. The community provided feedback to determine that the piece would be a playable music sculpture.

This interactive public art piece will feature ceramic tiles made by members of the community.

Stay tuned for the unveiling of this exciting new public art installation!
