The American Library Association's annual Banned Books Week is coming in October. Now through Sept. 26, the East Asheville Public Library in Buncombe County is collecting community art submissions that redesign the covers of banned books. We hope to raise awareness of book challenges and bans (and maybe introduce you to your next read)!

Selected designs will then be printed onto trading cards that you can pick up during Banned Books Week Oct. 4 - Oct. 10.

It's been a long journey to choosing our Dinosaur Showdown champion, but we have a winner! After twelve weeks of voting, you chose. . .

Quetzalcoatlus!

Quetzalcoatlus is an impressive creature, standing 12 - 18 feet high, as tall as a giraffe, and having a wingspan of 33 - 40 feet. It is one of the largest flying creatures that ever existed!

Archeologists and sharp-eyed fans of our runner up, ankylosaurus, might note that quetzalcoatlus is actually a pterosaur, not a dinosaur, so perhaps the debate will continue. Let us know your favorite dinosaur or other prehistoric creature in the comments!

Many of us loved Dolly Parton, not just for her music, but for the ways she gave back to and lifted up her community. Her Imagination Library put books directly into the hands of young children in our community and her help to families just across the border in Tennessee after the devastating wildfires some years ago were inspiring. We will miss you, Dolly, and we will always love you!
