Have a say in the future of connectivity in our region! 🌿

The French Broad River MPO, along with the Towns of Woodfin and Weaverville, Buncombe County, and NCDOT, is exploring a potential greenway connection between the two communities. This project could link the future Beaverdam Creek and Reems Creek Greenways with a paved, non-motorized path.

🚧 U.S. 64 Reopening This Weekend—Ahead of Schedule! 🚧

Great news for our region! The North Carolina Department of Transportation, in partnership with local communities, will reopen U.S. 64 this Saturday, March 28—earlier than expected.

This critical route connecting Bat Cave, Chimney Rock, and surrounding areas was heavily damaged during Hurricane Helene. Since then, crews have worked hard to rebuild and restore access for residents and visitors.

👷‍♂️ What to expect:

The road will reopen in a temporary traffic pattern with signals in place

Crews are finishing work on the eastbound lane and stabilization

Full reopening is expected by Memorial Day

💪 The progress so far is impressive:

20,000 cubic yards of debris cleared

57,000 tons of rock placed

Major reconstruction completed after severe storm damage

This will be the first major corridor impacted by the storm to reopen with final repairs underway, marking a big step forward for Western North Carolina’s recovery.

⚠️ Please drive carefully through the area—crews will continue working over the next couple of months.

Let’s continue supporting these communities as they recover and reopen. 💙
