If you’re tired of food rules that make you feel like there’s a “right” and “wrong” way to eat, and disconnected from what your body actually wants, it might be time for a different approach to your relationship with food.

Our intuitive eating group therapy is a supportive space to unpack food rules, body image, guilt, shame, and the experiences that have shaped your relationship with food.

Let’s work toward more food freedom, body trust, and peace around eating.

We had a great day today delivering Rosh Hashanah holiday meals to individuals throughout the community. We delivered 80 meals! Thank you to our chef, our staff, and our wonderful volunteers and donors who helped make this happen. This is such a special way to ensure community members are able to celebrate the holidays from their homes. Learn more at https://jfswnc.org/holiday-meal-program-donations/.

JFS of WNC is proud to announce the Alison Berkey Gilreath Endowment at Jewish Family Services of WNC, established in honor of our founder and Executive Director Emerita, Alison Gilreath, MSW.

The endowment will provide long-term support for JFS programs including counseling, senior services, food assistance, case management and other critical community resources. The fund was established with an initial investment of $25,000, made possible through the generosity of Carol Falender, in memory of her husband, William (Bill) Falender, as well as David and Susan Leader.

We’re deeply grateful for their support in honoring Alison’s legacy and helping strengthen JFS for generations to come.

To learn more about supporting the endowment, contact Michael Barnett at [email protected] or 828-253-2900 x 111.

While this might sound scary, it can be a normal part of the intuitive eating process. When your mind realizes there are no more rules around eating, it may go into the opposite direction. Without the obsession that once made food feel especially exciting, nothing may sound appealing anymore.

This is often temporary. During this time, it can be helpful to continue eating on a regular schedule and embrace the idea that eating doesn’t always have to be something to get hyped up about. Sometimes, food can simply be a part of our lives like breathing, walking, or talking.

You don’t have to wait until something sounds delicious to give your body the nourishment it needs.

If you feel like you need more support in your food journey, check out our upcoming group therapy that is meeting on Thurs 5-6pm starting on October 1st! Call 828-253-2900 for more info or to RSVP.

How can you help loved ones struggling with suicidal thoughts?

Have a direct, nonjudgmental conversation. Ask openly about what they’re experiencing and let them know you’re there to listen.

Actively listen to them and validate their struggles.

Help keep them safe. Help secure medications, fi****ms, or other lethal means. Put time and distance between those means and the suicidal individual.‍

Connect them to help. Support is available 24/7. Call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. In Buncombe County, RHA Mobile Crisis can be reached at 1-888-573-1006 for 24/7 mobile crisis support. If there is an immediate, life-threatening emergency, call 911.
