It’s important to limit outdoor exercise on hot days if possible and try to schedule workouts earlier or later in the day when temperatures are cooler.

Tips to keep people safe when exercising or recreating outdoors, including:

☀️ wearing loose, light-weight, and light-colored clothing,
☀️ drinking more water than usual and not waiting until they’re thirsty to hydrate,
☀️ pacing themselves during physical activity,
☀️ taking frequent breaks in air conditioning and shade, and
☀️ knowing the signs of heat-related illness.

This week, we at Randolph County Emergency Services recognize the men and women who answer the call—day or night, rain or shine—without hesitation.

Happy EMS Week to all the dedicated EMTs, paramedics, and first responders who show up when it matters most. Your skill, compassion, and commitment save lives and make a difference in ways most people will never fully see or understand.

From the quiet moments of reassurance to the chaos of critical calls, you carry the weight of responsibility with strength and professionalism. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the long hours you work, and the lives you impact every single day.

We see you. We appreciate you. And we honor you.

Dangers remain even after the skies turn blue. This is NOT the time to put your guard down. Be very careful with portable generators: carbon monoxide poisoning is one of the leading causes of death in areas dealing with power outages. Never use a generator inside your home or garage, even if doors and windows are open. Only use generators outside, more than 20 feet away from your home, doors, and windows.
