As we approach our 250th celebration season, it’s important to recognize and share the involvement and commitment of our local Ashburnham patriots. Their contributions and dedication are an important part of our community’s story and our nation’s history.

Anyone who caught Ken Burns’ recent documentary on the American Revolution may have been pleasantly surprised to see a segment highlighting our neighbors in Ashby—reminding us that the roots of history run deep right here at home.

The Ashburnham Historical Society posts are well worth the read:
“To see if the inhabitants of said town (Ashburnham) are willing to stand by the Honorable Congress in declaring the Colonies Independent from the Kingdom of Great Britain with their lives and fortunes to support them…”

🐻 Black Bear Activity in Our Neighborhoods 🏡

We’ve been receiving an increasing number of reports of black bear encounters in our local neighborhoods. While bears are typically wary of human contact, they are becoming more visible as they search for food—often traveling in family groups.

🐾 Bears are especially attracted to easy food sources like bird feeders, unsecured trash, pet food, and grills. Local cameras have been capturing some sizable bears moving through residential areas.

Please use caution and follow these simple safety tips:

Keep a safe distance and never approach a bear

Remove or secure attractants such as bird feeders and garbage

Stay alert, especially during early morning and evening hours

Make noise if you encounter a bear, and slowly back away

Bears will typically move along as they roam, especially when they don’t find food sources. Let’s help keep both our community and wildlife safe by being mindful and proactive.

Thank you for doing your part! 🐾

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 2026 🇺🇸

Today, the Ashburnham Police Department pauses to honor and remember the brave service members from our community—and across our nation—who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms.

We proudly reflect on the lives of Ashburnham’s sons and daughters who answered the call to serve, and we stand in gratitude for their courage, dedication, and selflessness. Their legacy lives on in our town and in the freedoms we cherish every day.

We also extend our deepest respect and support to the families they left behind. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed, and your loved ones will never be forgotten.

On this Memorial Day, we ask our community to take a moment of reflection to remember our fallen heroes and to honor the cost of liberty.
