Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people

Here in Metro DC DSA, our work, thought and action often get expressed through our committees: antiracism, socialist feminist, economic justice, communication, rapid response, outreach and member development.

Thirteen months ago, a national crime emergency was declared in DC, escalating the occupation within the heart of the empire with armed National Guard troops, masked federal agents, and MPD officers and elected officials all too happy to be a part of the reign of terror and violence. But we, along with other organizations in DC, have never stopped fighting back in order to protect our neighbors and city. And now we’re uniting once more to build an even stronger campaign of resistance with a mass meeting featuring panelists from Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid, Families Not Feds Coalition, Movimiento Migrante DC, and MDC DSA Community Defense WG, discussions led by seven of our working groups, and concrete ways to take action.

Childcare and Spanish interpretation will be provided. Space is limited so make sure you RSVP soon!

SOCIAL HOUSING ON PUBLIC LAND:
A Conversation & Resolution
Monday, August 17, 2026, 7:00 PM (promptly)
Hosted by the Metro DSA Public Lands Working
Register here: tinyurl.com/plwgaug17

Special guest presentations by the Center for Social Housing, the Peoples’ Justice Institute, and the Green New Deal Coalition DC: Whether you're new to the concept of social housing or already organizing around housing justice—you're invited to learn, ask questions, and help shape the conversation.

Over the past decade, Washington, DC has lost more than 60,000 Black residents, and recent reports indicate that three in five Black residents can no longer afford to live in the city.

As “Area Median Income” continues to rise while wages lag behind, so-called "affordable housing" has become increasingly out of reach for many working-class Washingtonians.

With new political leaders in the city, DC has a unique opportunity to finally implement a more equitable use of public land to truly serve the people over private profit.

Action / Solutions Now:

Find out more about the DC Housing Crisis and the solution of Social Housing — by watching this YouTube playlist here: Solving the DC Housing Crisis and visiting, www.SaveDCPublicLand.org for more info.

If you agree that public land in D.C. should remain under municipal (city) control for the public good, please sign onto the Call for a Moratorium on Public Land Giveaways here by Saturday August 29th.

Then, join a conversation with housing activists for a discussion on what decommodified social housing is and how it can help address displacement, expand permanently affordable housing, and ensure that public land remains a permanent public resource for truly inclusive communities.

Be there!
