We are all saddened and horrified by the shooting of a teacher by a 6-yr old boy at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, Friday afternoon. We are grateful that Abby Zwerner is now in stable condition and wish her a speedy recovery. Thanks to the Newport News Police. The city and state need to activate all available services for this boy and his family to determine how and why this terrible incident occurred. And we ask that all families w/ guns in their homes take time to review how they secure their weapons and talk with family members about gun safety. There will be time to discuss policies. Now is the time to protect our families from any future harm.
