Maker Monday at Brambleton Library: These Makerspace customers took digital drawing to the next level with the Silhouette Cameo equipment! Using markers instead of a cutting tool, they transferred images from the computer onto paper. During the months of July and August, be sure to stop by the Ashburn Library lobby exhibit cases to see some of the lovely gifts presented to Loudoun County from our Sister Cities. Featured here are a few of the items on display: a plaque from Germany, bracelets from Ghana, and a plate from Turkey.

What is a sister city?
A Sister City relationship is a broad-based, long-term partnership between two communities, usually in two countries. The relationship is officially recognized after the highest elected or appointed officials from both communities sign off on an agreement to become Sister Cities. The purpose of these relationships is to promote economic development, encourage investment and mutually beneficial opportunities, and improve cultural understanding.

Why do we have gifts from our Sister Cities?
The objects in this exhibit were given to the citizens of Loudoun County as gifts from dignitaries representing the residents of our Sister Cities. When members of the Board of Supervisors visit those cities or when their representatives come to Loudoun, gifts are typically exchanged as part of a ceremony or tour of the area. These gifts represent both the economic development of the region and are expressions of the art and culture of the people.

Books + adoptable animals = Paws & Pages! And we all know adoptable = cute.

How's that math for a librarian?

In collaboration with Loudoun County Animal Services, LCPL held the first of three summer book clubs for children at the animal shelter. (Props to our Ashburn Library staff who initiated it!) We had 17 kids participate in a lively discussion, followed by a tour of the shelter.

Two more book clubs are coming up in July and August:
-Saturday, July 13, 10 a.m.: https://loudoun.libnet.info/event/10921007
-Saturday, Aug. 10, 10 a.m.: https://loudoun.libnet.info/event/10921071

Collaborations like this are win-win-win situations for the community, our partners and LCPL. Thanks to LCAS for co-hosting this program!

It was another full evening of fun at the Ashburn Library on Thursday, June 20. The Ashburn Juggling Society shared their skills by teaching teens and adults how to juggle. There was lots of laughter and bonding between parents and their teens, and a few juggling naturals were discovered. In addition to juggling we had a Fandom Fun for Teens: Swift-Tea program. Thank you to Seven Teahouse in Leesburg for teaching the teens about Chinese Tea culture and bringing some refreshing teas to sample, all while enjoying the music of Taylor Swift.
