💡 Empowering Women & Kids with Financial Knowledge! 💰✨

At Good Shepherd, we believe financial education is key to building a stable future. That’s why we offer a Financial Management Class for Women, equipping them with the skills to budget, save, and plan for financial independence.

And for the next generation, a Money Education Class for Kids is being led by a dedicated high school student, Jack McAuliffe, teaching children the basics of smart money habits in a fun and engaging way.

Knowledge is power, and thanks to our community’s support, we’re helping women and children gain the confidence to manage their finances and build brighter futures! 💙

✨ Friday Fellowship: A Night of Vision & Inspiration! ✨

Last Friday, the Women's Ministry at Broadlands Community Church hosted a truly special Fellowship Night, led by our incredible mentors, Brittany Vaughner and Brandi Johnson! They organized an amazing Vision Board Party, creating a space for inspiration, reflection, and goal-setting. 🎯💖

Through the creative process of crafting vision boards, each woman had the opportunity to dream big, set intentions, and visually map out her hopes for the future—whether in faith, family, career, education, or personal growth. It was a night filled with encouragement, connection, and the powerful reminder that with faith, support, and determination, anything is possible! 🙌✨

A huge thank you to our mentors, the Women's and Teen Ministries at Broadlands Community Church, and all who contributed—providing the space, assistance, snacks, and babysitting. Your generosity made this night one to remember!

This Black History Month, we asked the women and children in our shelter to share a Black leader who inspires them. These incredible women, who are working hard to rebuild their lives, often find strength in the words and wisdom of those who came before them.

This week, our Director of Mission, Jessica Sawyer, chose a powerful quote from Maya Angelou:

"If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude." – Maya Angelou

Jessica shares, “Over the years in my career, I’ve needed to provide words of encouragement and support. Many times, I’ve leaned on inspirational quotes from Maya Angelou to share.”

This quote reflects the resilience of the women in our shelter, who face challenges with determination and grace. While they may not always have control over their circumstances, they are embracing hope, growth, and the power of a changed perspective.

🐑❄️ Little Lambs Club: Learning, Growing & Playing! 🎨📚

Our Little Lambs Club is part of our children’s programming, providing fun, enriching experiences that help kids learn, explore, and grow in a nurturing environment. Through activities, outings, and creative play, we give children the chance to build confidence, discover new interests, and just be kids!

Last week, our Little Lambs Club had an exciting winter adventure at the art park, where they got to see the sculptures covered in snow! ❄️🎨 Watching them run, laugh, and experience art in a whole new way was truly special.

Thanks to the generous support of 100WomenStrong of Loudoun County, Virginia, we can continue bringing art and music to these precious children, fostering joy, healing, and hope. Moments like these remind us how important creativity and play are in every child’s life. And, after all the fun in the snow, they’re hoping for another snow day this week! ❄️☃️

Leadership isn’t just found in the highest offices—it’s in the mother fighting for a better future, the woman stepping forward in faith, and the community coming together to lift one another up.

May we lead with compassion, serve with humility, and trust in God’s plan for every step ahead. 💙🙏

This weekend, we gathered for a heartwarming Galentine’s Brunch at the shelter, celebrating the beautiful community of women and children who uplift one another every day. 💖

Thanks to the generosity of our amazing supporters, we shared a delicious meal, the kids enjoyed fun crafts, and each woman received a special mug donated by a wonderful volunteer— a small but meaningful reminder that they are loved and cherished. ☕💝

To everyone who donated food, time, and gifts—thank you for making this event so special! Your kindness brings joy and hope to those who need it most. 💕

This Black History Month, we asked the women and children in our homes to share a Black leader who inspires them. Lina, a courageous woman in our program, chose Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and shared her favorite quote of his:

"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

No matter the challenges we face, may we all find the strength to keep going—one step at a time. Thank you, Lina, for this powerful reminder of resilience and hope. 💙

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Knutson, HomeAid National Capital Region, and all the incredible trade partners for transforming our "Peace" House into a safe, warm, and beautiful home for two families. This renovation has given them a fresh start, a sense of dignity, and the confidence to move forward. And the playhouse? It's pure joy for the little ones! 🏡💛

Because of you, these families don’t just have a place to live—they have a home where they feel valued, supported, and hopeful.

💙 A Night of Fellowship, Fun & Community! 🎲✨

A huge thank you to Broadlands Community Church for hosting a Friday Fellowship Game Night for the women and children in our homes! 💕 The room was filled with laughter, connection, and pure joy—so much so that the children didn’t want to leave, saying "But we don’t want to go!"

Moments like these remind us of the power of community—when people come together to create a space of warmth, belonging, and support. For the women and children in our shelters, these gatherings are more than just fun; they are a reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved.
