Keeping Our Youngest Passengers Safe!

Today, Officer Richard Thomas from our Traffic Safety Unit had the opportunity to help a member of the public by properly installing a child safety seat in their vehicle.

Child safety seats are an important part of protecting our youngest passengers in the event of a crash. Properly selecting, installing, and using the appropriate car seat or booster seat can make a critical difference in a child’s safety. It’s also important to remember that New Jersey law requires children to be properly restrained in accordance with state requirements.

If you have concerns about your child’s safety seat being installed correctly, our Traffic Safety Unit is here to help! We can inspect your child safety seat and make sure it is installed properly and being used correctly.

When it comes to child passenger safety, there’s no such thing as being too careful.

Police departments within the Monmouth County Shore Regional Task Force will be conducting a coordinated DWI roving patrol along Ocean Avenue on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM. During this time, there will be police officers from the shore region police departments specifically assigned to patrol for intoxicated drivers. The participating agencies are as follows: Sea Bright Police Department, Monmouth Beach Police Department, Long Branch Police Department, Deal Police Department, Allenhurst Police Department, Asbury Park Police Department, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. If you plan to go out for “thirsty Thursday”, be responsible, plan ahead, and get a designated driver. Enjoy the shore and make it home safe. One choice can change everything; DWI costs more than you think.

Today The Asbury Park Police Department joined forces with Asbury Park Social Services for National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day. Bringing community, support, and hope directly to those who need it most.

With BBQ food, meaningful conversations, and numerous social service vendors on site, the event connected individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction issues with vital resources. Outreach organizations shared information about job assistance programs, treatment and recovery options, housing support, and many other services.

This event reflects the ongoing partnership between Social Services, the Police Department, and community organizations to meet people where they are and make help more accessible. Together, we can raise awareness and ensure that support is within reach.

We would like to thank all of the organizations who showed up and helped make this an amazing event.

***Honoring Outstanding Service***

On behalf of Police Director John B. Hayes and the entire Asbury Park Police Department, we are proud to recognize three of our officers for their outstanding work and dedication in combating intoxicated driving in our community.

This evening at the City of Asbury Park Council Meeting, the following three officers were awarded the "Recognition of Excellence" award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD):

Officer Anthony Arancio #293,
Officer Kevin Gutierrez #308, &
Officer Vincent Gargiulo #310

Together, these three officers made more than 70 DWI arrests in 2025, removing dangerous drivers from our roadways and preventing potentially countless tragedies.

Their commitment is yet another example of how The Asbury Park Police Department continues to put the safety of the citizens and visitors of Asbury Park at the forefront of our mission.

We would also like to thank the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and City Council for taking the time to recognize these officers and the department for the hard work, dedication, and commitment to keeping our community safe.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Arancio, Officer Gutierrez, and Officer Gargiulo.

Drive sober. Arrive safe.

National Night Out - 2026

On behalf on Police Director John B. Hayes, we want to thank the community for coming out for an evening filled with food, giveaways, camaraderie, and family fun.

We are grateful to the countless volunteers who worked tirelessly through the hot weather to set up and keep the event running smoothly and to all of the organizations who showed up to support the community.

We were honored to have New Jersey OAG Jennifer Davenport join our community for this amazing event. During her time with us, she even volunteered as a 'Dunk Tank Victim'!

National Night Out would not have been the same without APPD Chaplin, Reverand Lyddale Akins, keeping the energy levels high and the kids engaged as the M.C.

Thank you to The City of Asbury Park for sponsoring the night and to everyone who supported us with donations, supplies, time and resources to bring it all together. Every year gets better than the last, and we look forward to making even more memories at next year's event.
