After this week’s winter storm, I want to take a moment to thank the emergency personnel and community members who have been working tirelessly to clear roads and get help to those in need.

As I’ve been out in the community lately, I’ve been getting more questions about what the County Office of Education does.

So I wanted to take a few minutes to share how our office supports students, schools, and districts across Calaveras County every day.

I wanted to share an exciting campaign update. I have officially filed with the Calaveras County Elections Office for the June 2nd election for County Superintendent of Schools.

Over the past 7 months, it has been a privilege to serve in this role and support schools across our county. I remain committed to keeping students at the center of this work and supporting their success.

I spent the day at Bret Harte High School volunteering at the Academic Decathlon, and it was such a good reminder of why this work matters.

Seeing students step up to interviews, speeches, and tough academic challenges is genuinely inspiring. Events like this don’t just recognize high achievement, they show what happens when students are engaged and supported.

Every student deserves a chance to feel connected to their school, whether that’s through academics, athletics, arts, music, or another program that helps them discover their strengths.

This is the work I care deeply about, continuing to create and expand opportunities for students across Calaveras County.

I want to thank the Valley Springs Rotary Club for having me to lunch on Thursday and allowing me to speak to them about education in our county. I’m grateful for our Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs and all the service organizations in our county that support students and other community needs. I was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in Peru from 2001-2002 and I connect deeply with Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self. Please join me in my campaign for Leadership of Mind and Heart, to serve our students and families with the skill, dedication and compassion they deserve.

I was honored to have been invited to participate in the Mark Twain Health Care District board’s strategic planning meeting yesterday. I presented data on student mental health and wellness in Calaveras County. I am grateful that the MTHCD has been such a great partner for schools and is willing to collaborate to meet the needs of our young people.
