Did you know...In Sept 1975 Space Shuttle testing made its mark at the VKF.
September 1975 saw the testing of one of the most highly detailed and highly instrumented models of the NASA Space Shuttle ever constructed in the von Karman Facility at Arnold Engineering Development Complex. The testing helped to determine heat levels the Space Shuttle’s manned orbiter encounters . The tests were conducted at simulated flight speeds, and special paint that changed from a solid to a liquid at specific temperatures were used to record temperature levels. Surface-applied oils recorded airflow over the surface of the vehicle.

🚁Combat ready: the Air Force Global Strike Command announced Initial Operating Capability for the MH-139 Grey Wolf, ushering in a new era of nuclear security modernization.

The platform will transition nuclear security activities from the Vietnam-era UH-1N Huey which has served the Air Force for more than five decades. The MH-139 Grey Wolf has significant upgrades, including increased speed, carrying capability and enhanced defensive systems that allow security forces to mobilize combat power and arrive on-site sooner.

Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) provided critical lifecycle management, rigorous engineering evaluations, and developmental testing to transition the MH-139A Grey Wolf from a commercial platform into a combat-capable military asset.
