On March 9, 2021, I had the opportunity to sit down with Brigadier General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai, the commander of the Afghan National Army’s 215th Corps, at his headquarters in Helmand Province. At the time, we were both leading in one of the most heavily contested regions in the country, he on the Afghan side, and me as the commanding general of Task Force Forge. That meeting was one of many where we worked together to build trust, share challenges, and stay focused on what mattered most: helping the Afghan forces take the lead in securing their own future. This photo was taken after one of those long, honest conversations.
