A little over an hour's walk this morning, further checking things out for the Saturday morning walk. Among the things I saw today were a trio of raccoons and a beautiful blue-black wasp, possibly, according to iNaturalist, a steel-blue cricket hunter wasp. (Sorry for the poor focus on the one that best shows the wasp out in the open).
* Note: it was unusual to see the raccoons approach me (out of curiosity) especially during the day. But if you see any animal - raccoon or otherwise - on a walk, please do not try to touch or feed them. They're cute, and an encounter can make a walk pretty special, but they are not pets and should never be approached to try to touch them.

-- Regarding the Saturday Walk --
At 9:00 when we start, it is predicted to be about 80 degrees, which should be OK. I'm not sure how quickly it will heat up; the hottest part of the day will involve heat warnings again but we'll be gone by then. If you are coming, please make sure you're signed up on the Facebook event, and -- make sure to bring water! -- We want everyone to be safe and enjoy the walk, which will mostly be under partial shade. We will be as resilient as the bitterweed in the photo! Or if you choose to be "dormant" for this walk, we understand. See you soon!
