SIGN UP FOR CITIZEN’S ACADEMY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM WHICH BEGINS OCTOBER 6
Registration is now open for the Fall 2026 Shelby County Citizen’s Academy Ambassador Program, scheduled for October 6 – November 12, 2026. Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, over a six-week period.

The Fall 2026 Shelby County Sheriff's Office Citizen's Academy Ambassador Program offers a comprehensive program consisting of lectures, interactive discussions, and site visits to various agency divisions, including the Shelby County Jail. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to participate in a ride-along program, gaining firsthand insight into the agency.

The primary objective of the Citizens’ Academy Program is to provide Shelby County residents with a deeper understanding of our operational procedures while fostering a stronger partnership between the Sheriff’s Office and the community we serve.

Memphis Light, Gas & Water (MLGW) is addressing a possible gas leak on Canada Rd. Near Davis Plantation. Canada Rd at Leeward Slopes (S/B), Canada Rd at Davies Plantation (N/B), and Canada at Windward Slopes (N/B) will be closed as MLGW addresses the problem. Please use Beverle Rivera Rd as an alternate. The City of Lakeland, Tennessee

On Friday, September 11, the University of Memphis Athletic Department invited our very own Assistant Chief Deputy Dallas Lavergne to serve the opening serve for the University of Memphis Ladies Tigers Volleyball game, hosting Boston College, in recognition and honor of first responders. Thank you to the University of Memphis athletic department for recognizing our first responders and inviting us to take part in the game.

Today is National Police Woman Day, and we want to shine a spotlight on the amazing women of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

These ladies do it all! From serving, leading, and making an impact not only in uniform but in the community, too. They’re not just deputies, they’re mothers, sisters, daughters, and true examples of what it means to serve.

We see you, we appreciate you, and today we celebrate YOU. Happy National Police Woman Day to all the women of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office who continue to inspire every single day.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the attacks brought on by terrorist extremists on September 11, 2001, a day that will forever be remembered in cities across this country. We will never forget the victims and the courage of those who risked their lives to save others on 9/11. Thank you to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the New York Fire Department for the use of their dispatch audio transmissions.

We spend so much time teaching our kids to stay safe; don’t touch a hot stove, look both ways before crossing the street, don’t climb too high on the playground.

But there’s one crucial life lesson many of us overlook: gun safety. Let’s make sure we talk openly with our children about what to do if they ever come across a gun. (Stop, Don’t Touch, Run Away, Tell an Adult)

Their safety depends on it.
