Dr. Alvin Forar, a dedicated veterinarian, Navy veteran, and lifelong servant of his community, passed away on November 3, 2025, in Everett, Washington, at the age of 77.
Born on April 12, 1948, in Seattle, Washington, Alvin grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Bothell before moving with his family to a larger dairy farm in Arlington. He graduated from Arlington High School and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy.
During his Navy service, Alvin was stationed at bases in San Diego, Tennessee, and Guam. He held the ranks of AIR 3 and ARD3 in Anti-Air Submarine Squadron 41 and received both the National Defense Service Medal and a Meritorious Unit Commendation for his exemplary service.
Following seven years of honorable service, he continued his education at Everett Community College and then at Washington State University, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He later advanced his training at the University of California, Davis, specializing in Food Animal and Herd Health Management.
Upon returning to Washington, Alvin began his career as a veterinarian, working in various roles that reflected his lifelong commitment to animal care. For more than 25 years, he also volunteered with the Oso Fire Department. His dedication intensified during the Oso Mudslide of 2014, when he served full-time as a veterinarian supporting search dogs and assisting in additional recovery operations.
Alvin’s service extended well beyond emergency response. He participated in Snohomish County Swift Water Rescue operations and was actively involved in civic and community life through groups such as Kiwanis and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. His tireless efforts were rooted in a deep belief in helping others.
He is survived by his brothers, Ferris Forar and Launi Forar (Loretta); his nephews, Karl Forar (Katrina), Kyle Forar (Evelyn), and Aaron Forar (Marcie); his nieces, Melody Forar (Tim), Angela Whitbeck (Joshua), and Cassie Engel (Travis); and ten great-nieces and great-nephews who carry on his legacy of kindness and commitment.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marian Forar, and his sister-in-law, Christina Forar.
A man of quiet strength and unwavering dedication, Alvin touched countless lives through his professional work and volunteer service. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who follow in his footsteps.
A memorial service will be held on November 29, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 615 East Highland Drive. A reception will follow at the Oso Fire Hall.
