Senior Center directors, your voice is needed!

"This research is filling a pretty critical gap—we don't know enough about how senior centers are identifying these issues, responding to them, or what support they need. Your network's frontline perspective would be incredibly valuable."

The survey for senior center administrators is quick (about 10 minutes), completely anonymous, and participants have a chance to win a $50 gift card. The National Council on Aging has endorsed the project and is helping distribute the survey as well. We also published an article with the NCOA on this exact topic that might be helpful context: https://www.ncoa.org/article/how-senior-centers-can-help-address-elder-abuse-and-self-neglect/

Would you be open to distributing the survey to your network of senior centers and encouraging members to complete it?

As Burlington's senior center, Heineberg Community Senior Center provides community, meals, programs, and a place to spend time with friends for hundreds of older Vermonters.

“The grant from Mascoma has supported our twice-weekly free, homemade lunches for older adults. Over the past four months, with the help of Mascoma funding, we have been able to increase our maximum seating from 25, to 30, and then to 35. The older adults who participate in our free lunches receive fresh, nutritious food at a time when groceries are increasingly expensive, and they also enjoy the social connection of sitting together, sharing a meal and conversation. Loneliness can be debilitating for older adults, so the socializing is just as important as the nutrition!” - Chittenden County Senior Citizens Alliance.
