As we warned this morning, our local rivers are bitterly cold and still running fast. There have been three water rescues in the county already today, including one in Arlington.

Two victims became overtired and stranded on the northern shore of the Stillaguamish near Haller Park, requiring the water rescue team to deploy a rescue kayak to bring them across the river to the park for medical evaluation.

Both victims were evaluated and refused transport.

While we want you to enjoy the weekend, we also want you to be safe! Our local waterways are cold and unforgiving. Please use caution!

This is also a reminder that we are in wildfire season, and we ask you to use extreme caution outdoors.

With promotions comes the need to replace vacated positions. Four of our members, two captains and two firefighters, attended the Snohomish County Truck Academy over the past week along with members from several other agencies.

This is a good reminder to slow down and give emergency workers plenty of room to operate.

Sunday morning, just before 5:00am, Engine 46 was parked at an emergency scene, with all warning lights operating, when an SUV struck it.

Thankfully, no employees were in the apparatus. The driver of the SUV was transported by a North County aid car to a local hospital with minor injuries. The incident is under investigation by the Arlington Police Department.

Crews moved into a reserve apparatus, but the engine that was struck sustained significant damage and will be out of service for an extended period.

We feel fortunate that none of our members were injured.

It was a short deployment for the boys, but a good test run for the upcoming summer season. Clearly, the work done did no damage to the pearly whites or biceps! 🤣
