Big day for North Central Texas! 🎉

At our 60th Annual General Assembly, we welcomed new leadership and honored some of the incredible people and partnerships that make this region work.

Richardson Councilmember Jennifer Justice was elected as our new Executive Board President. She brings deep experience and a real commitment to the communities we serve across North Central Texas. We can't wait to see what this year brings under her leadership!

We also recognized three outstanding honorees:
🏆 Marty Wieder of the Arlington TX Economic Development Corporation took home the William J. Pitstick Regional Excellence Award for more than 30 years of tireless work building economic opportunity across our region.
🏆 Aimee Nemer, City Secretary for the City of Richardson, was named the 2026 Linda Keithley Award recipient for her 28+ years of dedicated service and commitment to public administration excellence.
🏆 The Mike Eastland Regional Cooperation Award went to the North Texas Municipal Water District and its partner cities and consultants for solving a decades-long regional water rate challenge — a great example of what's possible when communities work together.

Sixty years of regionalism. Here's to many more!

North Texas is growing — fast! 📈

New population estimates from NCTCOG show the 16-county North Texas region added more than 203,000 new residents in 2025, bringing the total population to 8,952,590 people as of January 1, 2026. That means our region is now approaching nine million residents!

What does that growth look like?

🏙️ City of Fort Worth added 22,722 residents, the largest increase among regional cities
🌆 City of Dallas - City Hall added 17,564 residents, surpassing 1.4 million total residents
🚀 City Government of Celina, Texas continued its rapid rise, adding 16,813 residents
🏘️ City of Plano, Texas Government surpassed 300,000 residents
📍 Collin County led all counties in growth, adding 64,703 residents
🏠 North Texas added more than 85,000 new housing units in one year

Growth at this scale affects nearly every part of daily life — from roads and transit to housing, schools, infrastructure and public services.

More than 90 police recruits will come together tomorrow morning at the North Central Texas Council of Governments Regional Police Academy for a Memorial Day Remembrance Workout honoring fallen heroes and raising awareness about mental health and veteran su***de prevention.

The event reflects the values of teamwork, sacrifice and looking out for one another — both on and off duty.

As we approach Memorial Day, we remember those who gave their lives in service to our country and recognize the importance of supporting the mental health of veterans, first responders and frontline professionals.

This Memorial Day, we come together to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 🇺🇸

The North Central Texas Regional Police Academy and BCAPS invite all partner agencies to join us for our Memorial Day Workout — a day of remembrance, teamwork, accountability, and commitment. Together, we train with purpose to honor those who served and those who never made it home.

This event is more than a workout. It is a tribute to sacrifice, service, and the enduring bond shared by first responders, military personnel, and our communities.

🚲 Ready to shake up your commute, North Texas? This week is the perfect time to trade traffic for fresh air during National Bike to Work Week!

As part of May’s Topic of the Month series, we’re highlighting ways to make your daily commute greener.

Join the movement during National Bike to Work Week (May 11–17) and Bike to Work Day (May 15). The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) encourages everyone to swap four wheels for two, whether it’s for a day or the entire week.

On Friday, May 15, start your morning with a ride and celebrate with fellow commuters at select Dallas Area Rapid Transit (Official DART page) stations. Enjoy giveaways, free snacks, and more at:

- Akard Station (11 a.m.–1 p.m.) – Downtown Dallas
- Buckner Station (4–6 p.m.)
- CityLine/Bush Station (4–6 p.m.) – Richardson

Can’t bike the whole way? No problem! Combine your ride with public transit. Bikes are welcome on trains and buses across the region.
