We are a Texas PAC and actively solicit funds in support of Democratic candidates and issues, especially local Democratic women candidates. GAMDW grew out of the vision of a small group of local activists who worked hard to elect John Kerry as President of the United States. Though the 2004 election was lost there was considerable interest in keeping the momentum going. How could we harness all th

at energy and effort for subsequent elections? Our answer was to create an organization that would raise the visibility of Democrats in the Arlington/Mansfield area of Tarrant County, Texas. We drew upon our personal networks and by April, 2005 we had our first major gathering. Our numbers grew and by July, 2005 we were officially accepted as a chapter of the statewide Texas Democratic Women and as a Texas Political Action Committee (PAC). We believe in the values and principles of the Democratic Party and recognize the urgent need for change in our county, our state and our country.

Arlington Area Texas Democratic Women is finally meeting in person, Thursday May 12 at El Ranchito at 3517 S. Cooper. Come at 6 to order dinner and drinks. We will discuss the recent city elections and runoff, the threat to reproductive rights, future meeting topics and speakers, donations to candidates, collaboration with other area groups, and a fall fundraiser cookout. We are sad to report that our treasurer, Susan Hughes' husband, Michael Henderson, passed away recently. His memorial service will be January 1 from 2-4 at the Vineyard Church at 1301 W. Abram in Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tarrant County Meals on Wheels--where Michael volunteered--would be appreciated.
