A Magellan Federal financial counselor worked with a service member carrying a government travel card balance, multiple high-interest credit card debts, and a monthly budget that consistently ran dry. The financial pressure was compounding a security clearance concern, raising the stakes considerably.

Using a tax refund anticipation loan, the counselor helped the service member eliminate the travel card balance immediately and bring the overdue rent up to date. From there, AI-assisted tools and a structured debt payoff schedule were used to map out full credit card elimination within six months.

A referral to a care counselor addressed a personal relationship that was quietly draining finances. One year later, the service member has a working spending plan, active savings goals, and a measurably improved financial outlook.

Lisa Vincent and Kathy Smith, Personal Financial Counselors (PFCs) at Magellan Federal, volunteer their time supporting the Ohana Open Market, a monthly community food distribution event at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

This event is one they both recommend to their clients as a resource to offset the high cost of food in Hawaii. After volunteering, both were impressed by the quality and quantity of the food available, as well as the meaningful impact the monthly event has on the community they serve.

Through their volunteer service, Lisa and Kathy are strengthening the connection between financial counseling and real-world support resources, helping military families build stability while giving back to their community.
