Our Personal Shopper program would love to expand but we need substitute volunteers. You would need to be available most Tuesdays from 1:00-2:30. You would come to AFAC, wait in line with our members, and shop for 1-2 families. You will receive delivery instructions and a shopping list when you arrive. You would then deliver the groceries to the families. The families assigned to you will live near one another. We anticipate you spending approximately 45 minutes at AFAC and another 45 minutes delivering.

You must be 18 or older, have a vehicle, and be able to carry 2-3 grocery bags from a parking lot into an apartment building, up a flight or two of stairs, etc. You would also need to be available at least one Tuesday a month.

We are actively recruiting a FRIDAY volunteer driver to help with our home delivery program! You would arrive at AFAC between 10:00 and 11:00 am to pick up pre-packed groceries for approximately 5 clients who live in the same general vicinity. We estimate deliveries take an hour once you leave AFAC. You must be at least 18 years old, reliable, and friendly. You also need to be strong enough to carry about 40 pounds, able to walk some distance, including flights of stairs, have a car that can hold approximately 8 milk crates, and be comfortable driving around Arlington. We expect this to be a regular commitment after a brief trial period, but of course, we understand that you may take a week or two off periodically.

AFAC is growing and our mission is evolving with us.

Since our mission, vision, and core beliefs were last updated in 2011, the need in our community has more than doubled. This past year, we served 4,000+ families every week, with 1 in 10 Arlington residents coming to our doors.

This update reflects us, our community today, and will guide our work for years to come.💚

Each year, the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) surveys our members to learn more about their experiences, needs, and how we can continue improving our programs and services.

In March 2026, 2,052 AFAC members shared their feedback, a 49.1% response rate! Their insights help guide our work and ensure we’re meeting the needs of our community.

Summer should be a time for fun, but for thousands of families, it's a season of added challenges. With school out, many children no longer have access to the meals they rely on, while grocery bills and household expenses continue to climb.

AFAC will be closed Friday & Saturday (7/3 - 7/4). There will be no food distribution on these days. Any food donations should be dropped off before Friday or after Sunday.
