Wheeling Township recently hosted the Illinois Association of Township Administrators (IATA) for a meeting focused on key issues impacting township government and community services. Guest speaker Tina Marie Rojas, Aging & Disability Resource Manager for Oak Park Township, provided an update on recent changes to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid regulations. Additional topics included property taxes, veteran services and current State legislative updates.

The VIP Low Vision Support Group (LVSG) welcomed 18 attendees to its quarterly social gathering last week. Members enjoyed an afternoon of food, fellowship and conversation, along with a special presentation from guest speaker Pam Berman, a representative for Guide Dogs for the Blind. The VIP LVSG meets on the first Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. via Zoom, with the next meeting on June 4. Attendees will discuss various eye conditions and treatments and hear from guest speakers. 🎶🎸 Rock & Stock the Essentials! 🧴🧻🍼

Grab your lawn chairs, enjoy live music, and help make a difference! Join the Village of Arlington Heights for their first Sounds of Summer Concert Series event – Music with the Mayor – on Thursday, June 4 from 7–8:30 p.m. at Harmony Park in downtown Arlington Heights. This event is free and open to the public.

While you rock out to music from the band Exit 147 The Band, you can also help stock local food pantries by donating needed household essentials for area families in need.

Most-needed items include:
✔️ Body wash
✔️ Shampoo
✔️ Toothpaste
✔️ Baby wipes
✔️ Diapers (all sizes)
✔️ Toilet paper
✔️ Household necessities

Boy Scout Troop 32 and Elk Grove Township representatives will be on site collecting donations for the Elk Grove and Wheeling Township food pantries.

This program provides free exterior home painting services for eligible older adults, veterans, and individuals with disabilities over the age of 18. Join Wheeling Township Assessor Ken Jochum on Wednesday, June 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Township Office (1616 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights) for the seminar, “Why Are My Property Taxes So High?” This informative session will walk attendees through the property tax process and explain the actions taxpayers can take to better understand - and potentially influence - their tax bill. The seminar will be presented by Township Assessors Ken Jochum (Wheeling Township), Connie Carosielli (Elk Grove Township), Mike Gentile (Barrington Township), and Bill Pohlman (Palatine Township). In observance of Memorial Day, Wheeling Township will be closed today (Monday, May 25) and will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, and are dedicated to year-round support of local veterans, including assistance through the Assessor’s Office with qualifying veterans exemptions and connections to benefits and resources. Veterans and their families are also invited to attend a free upcoming June 5 Zoom presentation about the Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County (VACCC), which provides confidential support, financial assistance and guidance navigating earned benefits for veterans living in the Township. Thank you to Cub Scout Pack #132 of Arlington Heights for supporting the Wheeling Township Food Pantry through their annual Scouting for Food Donation Drive earlier this month. Thanks to the generosity and hard work of the scouts, families and community members involved, more than 750 food items were collected to help support local residents in need!
