SHERIFF DUMOND ISSUES NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL ADVISORY

As the winter storm continues to inundate our region, Delaware County Sheriff Craig S. DuMond has issued a NO UNNECESSARY TRAVEL ADVISORY for all Delaware County roads, effective immediately and lasting until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26th, 2026.

No Unnecessary Travel: Means that the roads are still open, but that hazardous driving conditions do exist, and no unnecessary travel should take place. Out of an abundance of caution, residents are strongly urged to remain off roadways to allow plow crews to operate safely and efficiently, and avoid placing themselves or 1st Responders at risk.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office does not determine whether individuals are required to report to work.

If you must travel, please drive carefully and ensure your vehicle is completely cleared of snow and ice to maintain proper visibility.

Please DO NOT call 911 for road closures or road condition updates. Residents are instead encouraged to monitor local news outlets and official law enforcement social media platforms for the latest information.

Travel ban in effect! All non-essential vehicles are prohibited on all Ulster County public roads from 7am Sunday until noon on Monday.

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger has issued a Local Emergency Order establishing a Countywide travel ban beginning Sunday, January 25 at 7 AM, in advance of a long‑duration winter storm expected to bring significant snow accumulations and hazardous conditions.

The storm is forecast to create dangerous travel conditions, slow snow‑removal operations, and impact emergency response. Out of an abundance of caution, and following a determination that public safety is at risk due to the impending storm, the following restrictions will be in effect:

TRAVEL BAN DETAILS
- All non‑essential vehicular travel is prohibited on public roadways within Ulster County.
- Only essential emergency vehicles and essential personnel are permitted to travel.
- Start: 7 AM on January 25, 2026
- End: 12 PM on January 26, 2026 (unless extended or revoked)

Residents are urged to stay off the roads, allow plow crews to work safely and efficiently, and avoid putting themselves or first responders in danger.

Additional updates will be provided at ulstercountyny.gov, and shared through Ulster County’s official channels.
