Students in Mrs. Haynes’ Culinary Arts I class recently learned how to make it from scratch, starting their sauce with a roux. They followed the steps carefully and did a great job putting their new skills to work. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

🎶 Students in Mr. Kerwood’s music classes at Roosevelt Elementary and Frances Willard Elementary enjoyed a special visit from folk musician Duane Porterfield of Mountain View, Arkansas.

Mr. Porterfield introduced students to several folk instruments, including flutes, banjo, guitar, mountain dulcimer, and even a musical saw.

He ended the visit with a duet alongside Mr. Kerwood on the mountain dulcimer and hammered dulcimer.

🎶 Los estudiantes de las clases de música del Sr. Kerwood en las escuelas primarias Roosevelt y Frances Willard disfrutaron de una visita especial del músico de folk Duane Porterfield, de Mountain View, Arkansas.

We were glad to welcome the V.J. Wilkins Foundation Trustees to Arkansas City High School today and give them a small look at what their support has helped make possible over the years. 💜💛

They heard part of the marching band’s Cherokee Strip Land Rush performance, a selection from the upcoming Matilda the Musical (Nov. 19-21), and a piece from the show choir.

The Foundation has supported our students in so many ways, including new lighting and sound systems, risers, music and instruments, guest clinicians, student travel, special performances, teacher learning opportunities, and more.

We are very thankful for the V.J. Wilkins Foundation and the many ways it continues to support music, the arts, and student experiences in Arkansas City Public Schools.

🇺🇸 This week, Mrs. Harper’s music students have been taking a closer look at “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Fourth- and fifth-graders worked on defining some of the anthem’s tougher words, while second- and third-graders explored the emotions the song can bring out and explained their thinking.

With Sept. 11 on our minds today, it’s a meaningful time to see students learning more about a song that holds an important place in our nation’s story.

🇺🇸 Esta semana, los estudiantes de música de la Sra. Harper han estado aprendiendo más sobre “The Star-Spangled Banner”, el himno nacional de Estados Unidos.

Los estudiantes de cuarto y quinto grado trabajaron en definir algunas de las palabras más difíciles del himno, mientras que los de segundo y tercer grado exploraron las emociones que la canción puede provocar y explicaron sus respuestas.
