Gettysburg Wreath Project at UAIS
On Friday, December 5th, a group of 6th-grade students were selected to participate in the Gettysburg Wreath Project organized by Mrs. Yargar-Reed. The trip began with a visit to the Gettysburg National Visitor Center, funded by the Gettysburg Foundation. Here, students watched a short film called "A New Birth of Freedom," viewed the cyclorama, and explored the museum to learn about artifacts from the Civil War.
For lunch, students enjoyed their packed meals at the historic Dobbin House. They then honored veterans by laying wreaths in the National Cemetery. Mr. Stan Clark spoke to the students about the importance of patriotism and honoring those who protect our freedom. Mr. Hoptak, a licensed battlefield guide, shared insights about the Gettysburg Address and its significance. Before returning to school, students visited the Beyond the Battle Museum.
A huge thank-you to the Gettysburg Moose Club for providing the wreaths and challenge coins. Thank you to the Gettysburg VFW Auxiliary for the donation of the American flags, and to the Biglerville American Legion Post 262 for funding our transportation.
It was a wonderful and meaningful experience for our students.
