👻 WHISPERS BEYOND: IOKP RETURNS 👻

The spirits are calling and the library is answering! We’re thrilled to welcome back IOKP (Investigating Oklahoma's Paranormal) for another night of the unexplained. They’ve joined us twice before and were such a huge hit that we had to bring them back!

Join IOKP, a paranormal investigation team from Oklahoma City, for a Paranormal Investigation 101 presentation! Learn about the methods, techniques, and equipment investigators use to explore reports of the paranormal. IOKP will also share plenty of evidence, stories, and experiences from their own investigations. 👀

And the night doesn’t end there…

🔦 WE’RE INVESTIGATING THE LIBRARY! 🔦
Following the presentation, IOKP will lead an investigation of the library itself! We’ll be holding a FREE RAFFLE for spots to participate in the investigation group. You could have the chance to explore the library after dark and see what might be lurking within the shelves. 👻📚

⚠️ The presentation is recommended for ages 14 and up due to the frightening nature of the content, but please note that you MUST be 18 years of age or older to be eligible for the investigation raffle.

Bring your curiosity, your courage, and maybe a flashlight… You never know what you might discover when you venture beyond.

Get Crafty is coming up on Thursday, September 17th at 6 PM and this time we will be learning the Japanese art of kinusaiga! Kinusaiga is a technique where you tuck fabric into grooves to create a pattern. Ours will turn into a cutie fall pumpkin! 🎃

Get Crafty is a monthly crafting class for adults 18+. It is free to attend and all supplies are provided.

Last night, LEGO Legion finished the Notre Dame set! Come admire its splendor where it is displayed on top of the documentary shelf. 🏵️

LEGO Legion is an adult LEGO club that meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6 PM. We alternate between collaboratively building large sets such as Notre Dame and completing fun challenges. 😍

Join us TOMORROW, Thursday September 3rd, for Crafty CROP!

Crafty CROP is an ongoing program on the first Thursday of each month from 5-8 PM. It is not a structured event, so come and go as your schedule allows!

Bring your latest scrapbooking/junk journaling project or start something totally new and work on it with other paper craft enthusiasts! We will have tools and supplies at each gathering, as well as a couple of starter kits (while supplies last).

This is a free program that does not require sign-up, and it is intended for adults.

Terry J. Ligon to Discuss New Book on Enslaved Black People and the Trail of Tears

Author and genealogical researcher Terry J. Ligon will discuss his new book, Enslaved on the Trail of Tears: Race, Removal and the Transformation of Indian Territory, during a special author presentation at the Ardmore Public Library.

📅 The event will take place October 9 at 12:00 p.m.

Published by The History Press, Ligon's 224-page book was released May 26, 2026. The book examines an often-overlooked chapter of the Trail of Tears—the experiences of enslaved Black people who traveled west with the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), and Seminole Nations during Indian Removal. Ligon's research explores the lives of enslaved men, women and children, differences in slavery practices among the Five Tribes, the role of Native women who were enslavers, the history of Black Seminoles, and the ways slavery and forced migration helped shape the development of Indian Territory, which later became Oklahoma.

A significant part of Ligon's research focuses on African Americans whose experiences have sometimes been overlooked or misclassified in historical records. His work seeks to restore their names, family connections and personal experiences to the broader historical narrative.

Ligon's work provides an important connection between the Trail of Tears, slavery, Freedmen history and the eventual settlement and development of Oklahoma. His research examines Dawes Rolls, land allotments, census records, Congressional records and Equity Case 7071, making the book particularly valuable for individuals interested in Oklahoma history and African-American genealogy. The public is invited to attend this informative presentation and learn more about a largely overlooked part of the history of Indian Territory and Oklahoma.
