This week at DeSoto Secondary School, our students took innovation to new heights.

Through an engaging STEM experience, students dove into the world of coding by programming and flying drones using Scratch. From building sequences to watching their code come to life in the air, the energy in the room was undeniable. While we faced a few technology hiccups along the way, our students showed resilience, determination, problem-solving skills and in the end, they prevailed!

A huge thank you to Angelina and Supawadee from Minorities in Shark Science for sharing their time, knowledge, and passion, and to Asha Campbell of the YMCA Beacons Program for helping make this opportunity possible.

Moments like these remind us our students aren’t just learning, they’re thriving. They’re discovering their potential, expanding their skills, and gaining real-world experience. Coding is now something they can proudly add to their resumes!

The future is bright, and our students are ready.

Our students at DeSoto Secondary School showed up and showed OUT!

Through the YMCA Beacons/Rise Up Program, they had the opportunity to create vision boards with Mrs. Asha Campbell and let me tell you, this was more than just cutting and pasting… this was PURPOSE in motion.

Each student took their time, poured their thoughts onto paper, and most importantly… they shared the WHY behind their vision.

They weren’t just dreaming…
They were declaring where they’re going.

Many of them said they’re hanging their boards up in their rooms as a daily reminder of what they’re working toward.

And that right there? That’s powerful.

These students don’t just have dreams…
They have GOALS.
They have VISION.
They have a PLAN.

And they’re already taking action, one goal at a time.

We are building leaders.
We are building thinkers.
We are building the next generation of WORLD CHANGERS.

Stay tuned… because this is just the beginning of what’s in store at DSS!

DeSoto Secondary School is thrilled to celebrate a milestone moment as our students embarked on their inaugural field trip to South Florida State Community College, where they explored the automotive and welding facilities, gaining valuable insights and advice from esteemed staff members. We're eager to see our students apply the knowledge and inspiration gained from this experience. Special appreciation is extended to Miss Crystal Waters and her dedicated chaperones for their exceptional leadership, and to Mrs. Asha Campbell of the Y Foundation for generously providing gifts and demonstrating unwavering support for our students' growth and development.

We joyfully concluded our Christmas Break at De Soto Secondary School with a special treat - professional Florida-themed portraits taken by the talented Mr. Jim Stafford. Every student had the chance to sit for their portrait for free, thanks to their parents' enthusiastic approval. We're deeply grateful for Mr. Stafford's dedication, as he recovered from illness to deliver truly amazing photographs. A huge thank you to our remarkable community partners who helped make this day unforgettable! Shell Davis Habitat for Humanity, your support was invaluable. A special thanks to our incredible Mary Kay Consultant for beautifying our students with expert hair and makeup services. Crystal Walters of Big Brother Big Sister treated our students to scrumptious cupcakes while they waited, a delightful touch. Laura Partridge of Laura's Good Vibe Tribe generously donated stunning attire, including elegant gowns and dashing shirts and ties, ensuring our students looked their absolute best. And none of this would have been possible without the exceptional organizational skills of Asha Campbell from the YMCA of Southwest Florida. De Soto Secondary School is truly thankful for her and everyone involved in making this day so special!
