County of Los Angeles Dept. of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights & Measures The is the official page of the County of Los Angeles Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures - http://acwm.lacounty.gov

Established in 1881, our Department protects consumers, the integrity of the marketplace, the health and safety of residents, and improves the quality of the environment through the enforcement of Federal, State and local laws and regulations. Our variety of services is unparalleled in other counties throughout California. Our programs provide leadership and direction in the successful early detec

tion, exclusion, and eradication of dangerous, invasive insect and plant pests; enforcement of laws and regulations regarding safe pesticide use; clearance of weeds, brush, and debris from vacant land to reduce fire hazards; inspection and verification of accuracy of scales, meters, price scanners, and quantity labeling on packaged goods; and the operation of a metrology laboratory. These programs protect the marketplace from unfair competition and a loss of confidence, consumers from fraud and increased food prices, the environment from increased pesticide application and pesticide mishandling, and the agricultural industry from increased costs for pest control. Four Bureaus directly provide these services.

Support for Those Who Served in the Armed Forces

As part of Operation Green Light, the Los Angeles County Agricultural Commissioner/Weights & Measures will shine green lights on our buildings in Arcadia and South Gate, CA, from Nov. 4-11 to show support for those who served in the armed forces.

More than 3,000 counties, parishes and boroughs will join us in this national activity to remind veterans that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

The lights are a sign that the county, state, and federal levels of government have resources to help veterans and their families overcome their unique challenges and flourish in our communities.

About 280,000 veterans live in Los Angeles County, making them the largest population of veterans in any U.S. county.

If anyone asks about the green-lit buildings in LA County, tell them about Operation Green Light and the numerous ways to help our veterans.

Don’t Pack a Pest!

As the holiday season continues, CDFA is asking for help from Californians in fruit fly quarantine zones — rather than moving homegrown fruits and vegetables from their property, please enjoy the produce with friends and family at home.

There are presently fruit fly quarantines in seven California counties: Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Sacramento. More information may be found on CDFA’s fruit fly information page: https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/plant/PDEP/treatment/

Additionally, Californians are urged to “Don’t Pack a Pest” this holiday season and every season. That means don’t bring fruits and vegetables back with you when you travel, and don’t have items shipped unless they’re inspected according to international protocols for reducing invasive species risk. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/import-information/gcsi/dont-pack-pest-program USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service
