Labor Day weekend is here!

Whether you're heading to the lake, firing up the grill, traveling to see family, or just enjoying a long weekend at home, the Crisp County Sheriff's Office wants everyone to have a SAFE and enjoyable holiday weekend!

Before you head out, keep these reminders in mind:

🚗 Buckle Up — Every Trip, Every Time. Make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained.

📱 Put the Phone Down. Distracted driving can wait. Your destination will still be there when you arrive.

🍺 Never Drive Impaired. If you plan to drink, designate a sober driver, call for a ride, or make plans to stay where you are. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

🚤 Enjoy the Water Responsibly. Wear a life jacket when appropriate, stay alert, and never operate a boat while impaired.

🔥 Grill & Fire Safety. Keep grills away from structures and never leave a grill or fire unattended.
🏠 Going Out of Town? Lock your doors and windows, secure valuables, and make your home look occupied.
🌞 Take Care of Yourself. Stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and remember that Georgia heat doesn't take the holiday weekend off!

UPDATE - 9/2/2026: BLUE ALERT CANCELED

At about 11:39 a.m., the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office stopped a car in Anderson, SC. Steverson was a passenger in the car

When law enforcement made contact with the car, they discovered Steverson injured from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Steverson was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

A BLUE ALERT has been issued for Jimmie Steverson, age 23. Steverson is wanted for the death of Chris Fisher, a Warm Springs Police Department officer, that occurred on September 1, 2026, at 11:57 p.m. in Warm Springs, GA.

Steverson is a black male, 5’6”, 150 lbs, with black locs and brown eyes. He was last seen in Warm Springs, GA, on September 1, 2026, at 11:57 p.m. Steverson was wearing a black t-shirt and black gym shorts. He was traveling in a 2026 black Chevrolet Silverado.

Steverson is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him or see any suspicious activity, please take immediate precautions and notify 911.

🔹 BUCKLE UP — EVERY TRIP, EVERY TIME.
Seat belts save lives. Make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained before you pull away.

🔹 SLOW DOWN.
Speeding reduces your reaction time and increases the severity of crashes. Give yourself—and everyone else on the road—a little more time to get where you're going.

🔹 DRIVE SOBER.
If you've been drinking or using impairing substances, don't drive. Have a designated driver, call a friend, or use another safe way home.

🔹 PUT THE PHONE DOWN. 📵
A text, notification, or glance can wait. Your attention belongs on the road.

🔹 PROTECT OUR YOUNGEST PASSENGERS.
Make sure children are riding in the appropriate car seat or booster seat and that restraints are installed and used correctly.

Traffic safety isn't just about avoiding a ticket—it's about making sure everyone gets home.
