Being a part of community service, road clearing and traffic assistance, apparatus driver, apparatus mechanics, building maintenance assistant, administrative positions. There is a place for most anyone and we need individuals who wish to serve in some capacity. The department may depend on you, and you and you to keep functioning. Ruth Command 15: This is desinated as a quick response command vehicle but we wish to educate the public and other fire departments what you can do with a fire SUV. There is some funny you tube videos about command and chief vehicles on the internet. This one does not fit into that category. Through a little time, thought and effort, we continue to add to the versatility of a simple Tahoe. Command 15 normally responded by the chief or asst. Chief or both is equiped well. Majority of the calls are medical. This unit has medical bag, Lucus device for cpr, AED, and other medical supplies for humans and animals as well. It also contains a E Combi tool, commonly known as the jaws of life. It cuts, it spreads, and is accompanied by two V Struts for vehicle stabilization when overturned. Halligan tool, pick ax, and pike pole is also secured to the command cabinet with multiple flashlights. Other E Tools consist of Leaf blower, Recip saw, chainsaw. At this point in the videos it is talked about how the fire suv has to wait for a fire truck to extinguish fires. We have placed a Max 10 CAF system, which stands for Compressed Air Foam. It is a 10 gallon tank of water with a 4500 air bottle allowing it to deliver two minutes of fire suppression agent equivalent of 200 gallons of water when applying as foam. It also has a propack foam pack that can be used with a fire engine and just last year extinguished a E Mustang lithium battery runaway fire which departments have used 20,000 gallons or more to put out. With the Propack and Encapsulation agent, it was accomplished with 200 gallons. Chief and Asst Chief are both certified firefighters and there for room still exist for the fire gear and 2 SCBAs and spare bottles are also carried on this unit. It is also equipped with a winch, and 2 thermal imaging cameras. There is more but you get the picture. Command 15 is a BAT. Ask and we will explain the acronym. Since this set up, we have saved two structure, a few vehicles, and a large sail boat. No she don't float, but Command 15 is a GOAT

🚒This past weekend was Alabama fire college explorer program.

🎒Our juniors packed up and went and showed out this year!

📅Saturday they had ropes where they repelled down a multiple story building, then they went straight to the mobile drill tower where they did bailouts and blind spaghetti drill in a building, then they got to do their favorite and that was extracation where they got to cut up cars.

📅Sunday they have confined space where they were lowered down a pipe and had to come out the other side then they had to go in a building for the rest of their confined space training, after that they got to do what they didnt get to do last year and that was to go in the connex and learn how fire works and learn thermal imaging.

🌟Huge thank you to the Alabama Fire College for letting us be apart of this and making sure the ones coming up get the proper training they need!🌟

In the Ruth Community the fire dept wants to let everyone know that we do help with smoke detector installs or battery changes. If there is also someone in need we can also help get them in contact with who can help in surrounding areas and who they need to speak with about getting them done.

Today, two of our volunteers, as well as our chief, went and hung up some smoke detectors. We can also put up some battery-powered ones or just change the batteries that are going out in yours and driving you crazy with that beep. If you already have some wired into your house, we can also put those up if you have some that need to be replaced. We don't specifically have the wired ones, but if you have some just lying around that you've been meaning to put up and haven't gotten around to it, give us a holler and we can arrange a time to do that for you. If you or anyone you know needs batteries or even smoke detectors, let us know.
Smoke dectectors have a 10 year life and then they should be changed. Batteries should be changed atleast twice a year.

Call the fire dept number and leave a message with your name and phone number and we will call back 256-586-5199

January 1st-31st of 2026 Ruth Volunteers have responded to 30 calls with a variety of calls.

I know it don’t seem like much but we had 17 call time hours in total between multiple of our responders. Who also work 40-50 hrs a week and still find the time to do it because they want to help their community. Some are even getting up at 1,2,3,4 o’clock in the morning to help. Please please if you feel it in your heart to volunteer come join us. Most of these volunteer hrs are also done in their personal vehicles which is their gas they are using to help as well.

4 Fire calls
2 brush fire calls
6 lift assist calls
12 medical calls ranging from falls to breathing problems
2 fall
2 fire alarms/carbon monoxide detectors
