**Impaired 41-year-old man from Las Vegas flees from law enforcement while his 3-year-old child is in the car**

‼️ Last night, officers attempted to stop an Acura sedan in the city of Capitola for a traffic violation. The Acura failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. discontinued the pursuit as a safety precaution. 🚨

Shortly afterward, California Highway Patrol (CHP) units located the Acura near the Seascape area and attempted to stop the vehicle. The Acura again fled, and another pursuit ensued. However, the vehicle came to a stop at a nearby beach as it headed toward the ocean.🌊

Officers later learned that a 3-year-old child was in the vehicle. The driver, a 41-year-old man from Las Vegas, was taken into custody for felony evading, DUI, and child endangerment. The child’s 38-year-old mother, also from Las Vegas, was separately taken into custody on separate charges. The child was taken to a safe location.

A huge shout-out to K-9 Officer Chip and his partner, as well as , for their assistance at the scene.

Officer A. Donald Hoover was traveling along the Santa Cruz - Watsonville Highway, on a stretch known to locals as “Slaughterhouse Curve”, when his motorcycle collided with an automobile that pulled out from a side road and turned in front of the patrolman.

Hoover, 31, sustained critical injuries and died without regaining consciousness. Officer Hoover was a distant relative of Herbert Hoover, the former President of the United States.

🛣️ Yesterday afternoon, for reasons still under investigation, a crash occurred between a motorcycle and a pickup truck on SR 129 ‼️ As a result, the rider sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The rider was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, which played a factor in saving his life 🙏

‼️ Whether you’re behind the handlebars or behind the wheel:

🚨 Ride sober and within your limits.
🚨 Always wear a DOT-compliant helmet and proper protective gear.

A couple of days ago, CHP officers spotted a tiny kitten walking alone in the middle of Freedom Blvd. Fortunately, our officers were nearby and safely placed the kitten in a patrol vehicle before transporting it to a local animal shelter. 🐱💙

What an incredible week in Santa Maria! We’re proud to announce that **CHP Santa Cruz motor officers earned first place** at this year’s **Coastal Division Motor Competition!** 🎉

The competition brought together CHP motorcycle officers and riders from allied agencies for a challenging course that tested skill, precision, safety, discipline, and determination. These events are about so much more than speed—they showcase teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence. 🏍️💪

A few days ago, CHP officers responded to a two-vehicle crash on SB SR 1, just north of Freedom Blvd. Fortunately, no major injuries happened, but the crash caused quite the traffic jam back to Soquel Ave.

Let’s use this as a reminder to prioritize safety on the roads:

1️⃣ Always buckle up.
2️⃣ Never drive impaired.
3️⃣ Don’t drive distracted.
4️⃣ Always look twice and check your mirrors when switching lanes.

Last night, a member of our community observed a vehicle driving erratically on HWY 1 near Airport Blvd. 🚙💨 Without hesitation, they dialed 911 and provided essential details like the vehicle description, travel direction, and concerning driving behavior. Thanks to this timely call, CHP officers took action and apprehended the 38-year-old driver from Salinas. 🚓

Upon investigation, the driver faced multiple serious charges, including DUI and possession of controlled substances with intent to sell. ⚖️ This incident highlights the power of community vigilance and collaboration with our local law enforcement. Together, we can prevent crashes and potentially save lives!

🛣️ Traffic Stop on Highway 17 Leads to Arrest and Seizure of an Unserialized Fi***rm 🔫

‼️ On Friday evening, a unit assigned to a specialized HWY 17 enforcement detail conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a Watsonville man in his 30s, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). During the arrest, officers located two fi****ms in the vehicle, one of which was a “ghost gun”—an unserialized fi***rm. 👏
