URGENT: Wisconsin Mother in Premature Twin Labor Denied Second Opinion and Transfer by Fond du Lac Hospital; Aaron’s Heart of Gold Intervenes to Demand Life-Saving Care
FOND DU LAC, WI — May 26, 2026 — A young Wisconsin mother is facing an unthinkable medical crisis at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, where she is currently fighting for the lives of her twin babies. Having just delivered one of her twins prematurely at 22 weeks, the mother remains pregnant with her second child. Despite her desperate pleas for medical intervention and a second opinion to save both infants, hospital administration and staff have reportedly refused to intervene, denied a second opinion, and are currently blocking her from switching doctors or transferring her care.
The community non-profit organization Aaron’s Heart of Gold has stepped in to advocate directly for the mother and is issuing an urgent public plea for immediate medical intervention, emergency transfer assistance, and legal oversight.
According to family and representatives from Aaron’s Heart of Gold, medical staff at St. Agnes Hospital informed the young mother that they would not provide medical intervention for the newly born micro-preemie, stating the infant would pass. Concurrently, the mother is experiencing a rare medical situation known as a delayed interval delivery, meaning her second twin remains in utero.
Desperate to give both of her children a fighting chance, the mother explicitly requested a second opinion from a specialist or maternal-fetal medicine expert, and requested to switch physicians. The hospital has flatly refused these requests. Because the hospital is refusing to facilitate an external transfer or allow a change in her care team, the mother is essentially being held under a care plan she does not consent to while her unborn child's life hangs in the balance.
"This is an active emergency situation where every single second counts," said the leadership team at Aaron’s Heart of Gold. "A mother has a fundamental right to a second opinion, a right to choose her medical team, and a right to seek life-saving care for her children. We are calling on St. Agnes Hospital to immediately allow an external maternal-fetal medicine team to evaluate her, or to immediately approve her transfer to a regional center equipped and willing to intervene for 22-week micro-preemies."
Aaron’s Heart of Gold is actively coordinating community support and issuing an immediate plea to regional medical centers, patient advocacy groups, and state health officials to intervene before it is too late. They are also calling on local media to bring immediate scrutiny to the hospital’s refusal to grant a patient-requested second opinion during an active labor crisis.
