📣Amnesty Day Reminder

Franklin County residents are reminded that tomorrow is Amnesty Day at the Franklin County Landfill in Eastpoint. During Amnesty Day, certain waste items can be dropped off at no charge, subject to landfill rules and limitations.

Typical accepted items include yard trash, white goods (such as household appliances and scrap metal), limited numbers of tires, and homeowner construction and demolition debris, as specified by the landfill’s current amnesty guidelines.

Residents should bring proof of residency and be prepared to unload their materials in the designated areas. If you have questions about what can be brought or the operating hours for Amnesty Day, please contact the Franklin County Solid Waste Department or the Franklin County Landfill office before arriving.

Water/Sewer Utility crews working alongside Wastewater Treatment Plant personnel, completed repairs to a blockage in the Sylvester Williams lift station force main following a response that began around midnight Tuesday and continued until approximately 11:00 p.m. last night.

Crews located and removed a significant accumulation of rag type material that had clogged an 8-inch elbow in the force main, restoring flow to the system. The response was a joint effort between the Water/Sewer Division and Wastewater Treatment Plant personnel due to the scope of the work.

While the area was excavated, staff also identified several valves, gauges, and fasteners in the valve pit that require replacement. These components will be replaced as part of the ongoing maintenance efforts to improve system reliability. The bypass system is expected to be back in operation this evening following the completion of repairs and maintenance work.

Residents are reminded and asked to not flush items such as diapers, cleaning/baby wipes, hygiene products, carpet or other improper debris down the toilet as they clog the sanitary sewer system.
