Important Notice

Due to poor attendance at our last jury selection, the Circuit Judge has directed that the exemption and disqualification requirements set forth below be strictly adhered to. You must appear if you don't qualify to be excused by the Clerk as outlined below. The Clerk's Office does not have the authority to excuse prospective jurors from jury service for reasons other than those specifically outlined in Section 40.013, Florida Statutes, and listed below.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in fulfilling this important civic responsibility.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your jury summons, please get in touch with the Franklin County Clerk's Office at (850) 653-8861.

Reporting for Jury Duty:

Jury service is an important civic responsibility and is required by law. The goal of the Franklin County Clerk's Office is to summon qualified citizens who represent a fair cross-section of the community, including working individuals, retirees, and persons of diverse backgrounds, to serve as jurors in the civil and criminal courts of Franklin County.

Exemptions and Disqualifications

Section 40.013, Florida Statutes, provides specific reasons a person may be excused or disqualified from jury service. These reasons fall into two categories: Optional Exemptions and Mandatory Disqualifications.

Optional Exemptions (Upon Request Only)

You may request to be excused from jury service if:

You are an expectant mother.
You are 70 years of age or older.
You are a parent who is not employed full-time and who has care and custody of a child under six (6) years of age.
You have previously appeared as a prospective juror in Franklin County within the past one (1) year. (The one-year period is calculated from the date you last served to the date of your new summons.)
You are responsible for the care of a person who is mentally or physically incapacitated.
You are a full-time federal, state, or local law enforcement officer or investigator employed by a law enforcement agency.

Mandatory Disqualifications

You are not qualified to serve as a juror if:

You are under 18 years of age.
You are not a citizen of the United States.
You hold the office of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Cabinet Officer, Clerk of Court, or Judge.
You have been convicted of a felony and your civil rights have not been restored.
You are currently under prosecution for a crime.
You no longer reside in Franklin County.

Requesting an Excuse

Individuals who fall within one of the mandatory disqualification categories must be excused from jury service. Individuals who qualify for an optional exemption will be excused only upon request.

To request an exemption or disqualification, please complete the Juror Excusal Statement included with your jury summons and follow the instructions provided.

In 1916, more than 100 years later, President Woodrow Wilson established June 14 as Flag Day to commemorate that decree.
