The Langlade County Sheriff's Office was proud to participate in a short ceremony honoring and remembering Sheriff Edward Buchen who was tragically killed in the line of duty on November 5, 1933. Sheriff Buchen was 56 years of age and had been serving his third term as Langlade County Sheriff. Additionally, City of Antigo Police Chief John "Jack" McArther was also honored by the Antigo Police Department. Chief McArther was killed in the line of duty on June 24, 1905.
Please help us honor and remember these two local law enforcement officers who are also enshrined on the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial in Madison.

⚠️ Scam Alert ⚠️
The Langlade County Sheriff’s Office and surrounding Sheriff’s Offices have received multiple calls recently regarding someone identifying themselves as a “Deputy Campbell” or other fictional Law Enforcement Officers. The caller indicates that people have either missed jury duties or other serious legal issues that need to be resolved.
THIS IS A SCAM.
A deputy would never call you to inform you that you missed jury duty. Nor would the Sheriff’s Office request payment or gift cards in exchange for missing jury duty or other alleged legal issues.
IF YOU RECEIVE A CALL LIKE THIS:
- Do NOT provide any personal information
- Do NOT send money or gift cards
- Hang up IMMEDIATELY
If you have any questions regarding this scam, please call the Langlade County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line.
