I-17 Lane Restrictions - starting this summer

A new paving project is starting on I-17 this summer ☀️

We're getting to work resurfacing a 10-mile segment of I-17 between Sunset Point and SR 69.

This stretch of highway is just north of the Flex Lanes, which were completed last year. This new project will help create an even smoother, safer commute between Phoenix and Northern Arizona.

Expect overnight lane restrictions through the project’s completion in fall 2026.

Sometimes during the project we'll also need to close the Sunset Point Rest Area ramps and crossroads. We'll update the overhead signs when these closures are scheduled.

Stay smart and stay safe around the water.

• Never swim alone
• Avoid alcohol around water
• Know your limits

Most incidents happen during routine activities, don’t let your guard down.

Be water wise. It could save a life. 💧

Tonto National Forest Fire Restrictions

Tonto National Forest Fire Restrictions

Before heading out to recreate on the Tonto National Forest, remember that we are currently in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions and emergency recreational shooting restrictions. We take these measures to help prevent unwanted, human-caused fires.❗So what's prohibited right now?

🔥No building, maintaining, or USING a fire, campfire, or stove fire, including charcoal, coal, and briquettes, except within Forest Service provided fire rings. This includes fire spinning or flowing. Salt cedar, also known as tamarisk, is an invasive tree that grows along the Salt River, and it is highly flammable. One spark is all it takes to cause a wildfire.

An exemption from this would be using a propane-fueled device that can be turned off and on in an area barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within three feet of the device.

🚭Smoking is prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle, developed recreation site within in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of any flammable material.

💥Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun.

Fireworks and other incendiary devices are NEVER allowed on any national forest lands!

For more info on fire restrictions, what they mean and why we implement them, please visit our website: https://www.fs.usda.gov/r03/tonto/fire/fire-restrictions.
