Interfaith Ministries of Calhoun County We seek to address the needs of a variety of our community’s population. We provide assistance and serve as an advocate for individuals and families in crisis.

Our programs are diverse, meeting the needs of our community members ranging in age, socio-economic status, as well as religious and racially diverse backgrounds. Our Purpose is to foster Interfaith cooperation and understanding as we provide a caring environment for people of all ages and socioeconomic levels.

A lot of people tell us they wish they could do more.

They work days. They're raising kids or caring for a parent. They'd drive a Meals on Wheels route if they could get away at noon, or help with showers on a Tuesday if Tuesday looked different.

Here's the thing. We need both. We need the hands, and we need the giving that pays for what those hands hand out.

A monthly gift buys the food in the box. It fills the prescription. It keeps a family's power on in July.

Did you know Interfaith Ministries helps clothe our neighbors in need?

Every shirt and pair of pants on this rack is a real need about to be met. And every single piece was given by someone right here in Calhoun County.

Did you know you need an address to get almost anything?

A job application asks for one. So does a driver's license. So does a benefits letter, a disability check, a doctor's follow-up.

If you don't have an address, you can't get any of it. Which means you can't get the job that would get you the address.

That's the loop our neighbors get stuck in. And it's why there's a wall of wooden cubbies in our building.

Interfaith provides a mailing address for people who don't have one. Their mail comes here. A volunteer sorts it into a box with their name on it. That's the whole system.

Sandra Gooden showed up last week with a stack of towels and a bag full of toothpaste, and she made our Open Door guests' day a little brighter without even knowing it. Fresh towels and toiletries are things a lot of us take for granted, but for our neighbors who use our shower program, they mean dignity and a fresh start to the day. Most of what happens here doesn't get planned.

Somebody walks in on a Tuesday. A power bill is past due. A prescription can't be filled. A neighbor needs a walker before they can go home from the hospital.

We don't know who's coming. We just have to be ready when they do.

That's what monthly giving is for. When we can count on the same amount every month, we can say yes without hesitating.

Nearly ninety one million dollars.

That's what our SenioRx program has put in the hands of Calhoun County neighbors since 2002. Free and low-cost prescriptions, for people who had been prescribed medicine they could not afford to fill.

In July alone, our team worked with 117 neighbors and enrolled 15 new ones.

Here's how it works. Most drug manufacturers run patient assistance programs that give medication away free to people who qualify. Almost nobody knows they exist, and the applications are long. So Kathy and her team sit down and guide our neighbors through this process.

That's the whole program. Paperwork, patience, and somebody who knows where to look.

Every morning we're open, there's water on this table and a snack bag ready to go.

It's part of The Open Door, along with showers twice weekly, coffee, and a place to be for a minute where nobody's asking anything of you.

This table stays stocked because folks in Calhoun County keep dropping things off. Cases of bottled water. Boxes of crackers, granola bars, snack cakes, anything individually wrapped.

If you want to help keep it full, bring it by 1431 Gurnee Ave, Suite A, Monday through Thursday 8:00 am-2:00pm.

Five dollars a month is a real gift. So is a hundred.

A lot of folks assume monthly giving is for people who can commit to something big. It isn't. You pick the number, you set it up once on our website, and it takes care of itself from there.

Tuesday and Thursday mornings, neighbors come through The Open Door for a shower. This table is what waits for them when they're done. A clean towel from the stack. A razor. A travel-size bottle of shampoo somebody brought back from a hotel and thought to save.

All of it was donated by someone in Calhoun County who figured it might matter to somebody. It does.

A shower is not just a shower. It's walking into a job interview feeling like yourself. It's sitting down at a table without wondering what people are noticing. It's one morning where you got to start clean.
