The past weekend the Jolly Rogers had the distinct honor and privilege of performing at the christening ceremony for the USS Jack H. Lucas (DDG-125) in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The ceremony marked the first christening of a Flight III Arleigh Burke-Class guided-missile destroyer.

The ship is named in honor of Private First Class Jacklyn Harold Lucas, a U.S. Marine who served during World War II. At age 17, PFC Lucas is the nation's youngest Marine to be awarded the Medal of Honor. PFC Lucas received the MOH after hurling himself on top of two grenades to save his fellow Marines during the Iwo Jima Campaign.

“This ship represents our nation’s strength, grit, tenacity, and is a tangible example of Lucas' legacy.” -ADM Mike Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations.

Welcome back to another Meet the Team Monday!
Today we feature MIDN 2/C Jonathan Simmons from the bodacious Bowie, Maryland. He is currently a member of .wolfpack and a Physics major with a Spanish Minor. On the yard, Jon serves as our team’s illustrious treasurer, a member of , and is the OPS (quite the renaissance man!). After graduation, Jon hopes to be either a Submariner or join the Marine Corps.
Jon says his favorite thing about the team is “the constant drive to always improve yourself. We all know that there is always a part of the performance where we can be sharper and make more noise, and I love that about the team."
Fun Fact, don’t get in a fight with this driller, Jon is a third degree black belt in Taekwondo! 🥋
As always, please contact for more questions about the team. Please don't hesitate to like, share, and comment. Rogers out!
