The Dans Mountain State Park Pool is closed for the remainder of the day on Saturday September 5 due to forecasted rain in our area. The pool will resume regular operation tomorrow, Sunday September 6. The last day of the season will be Labor Day Monday, September 7.

Visit Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park tomorrow at 1 pm to Join Ranger Grace as she shares the plants Harriet Tubman used throughout her life and journeys. Take home a craft you made using the plants.

The Deep Creek Lake Natural Resources Management Area and Broadford Lake Managed Goose Hunt will take place in Garrett County, Maryland. This regulated hunt is open for all legal waterfowl species in accordance with Maryland hunting regulations and is an important part of responsible wildlife management in the area.

Hunt Dates:

November 21–27, 2026: Deep Creek Lake only
November 23–25, 2026: Broadford Lake only
December 15, 2026 – January 30, 2027: Deep Creek Lake only
Interested hunters are encouraged to apply for these limited sites through October 11, 2026. Selected hunters will be notified after October 12, 2026, by the Deep Creek Lake Management Office. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is looking for a partner with a vision for sustainable agriculture.

A new Request for Proposals is now open for a long-term agricultural lease at the Pierpoint Property in Seneca Creek State Park in Montgomery County. The property includes approximately 111 acres of cropland, and DNR is seeking proposals that use regenerative agricultural practices to improve soil health, reduce erosion, improve water quality and create opportunities for public education and engagement.

Nonprofit, private and commercial entities are welcome to apply, and creative proposals involving small-scale, environmentally friendly farming operations are encouraged.

Important dates:

Pre-bid site visit: September 3 at 10 a.m.
Deadline for questions: September 22 at 5 p.m.
Responses to questions posted: September 30
Proposals due: October 9 at 5 p.m.

The Woodmont Rod & Gun Club has been visited by 6 United States Presidents: James Garfield, Chester Arthur, Benjamin Harrison, Grover Cleveland, Herbert Hoover, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

While you cannot sit in the 'President's Chair', consider resting on these fine rockers on September 13 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Woodmont Lodge!
