Maryland is home to a broad diversity of aquatic species, habitats and fishing opportunities including freshwater streams and lakes, the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, and offshore coastal waters. The Department of Natural Resources Fishing and Boating Services is charged with managing all fishing in Maryland in the interests of conservation and the equitable use of our fishery resources. To

that end, the Fishing and Boating Services works with stakeholders, scientists, and the public to develop management plans in balance with the ecosystem for the benefit of present and future generations. The Fishing & Boating Services works to enhance fishing with public access, education, outreach and the development of sustainable economic opportunities.

3-Day Striped Bass Fishing Advisory Forecast: June 20 - 22

đź”´ Red: Anglers are encouraged not to fish for striped bass after 10 a.m. and should target other species of fish.
🟡 Yellow: Use extreme care when fishing for striped bass. Fish should be kept in the water when caught and released.
🟢 Green: Fishing conditions are generally normal. Proper catch-and-release practices are encouraged.

Saltwater anglers who are not required to hold a Maryland Bay & Coastal Sport Fishing license and want to fish the Chesapeake Bay and tidal Potomac River must obtain a free Maryland Saltwater Angler Registration. By registering with Maryland, you will not need to register with NOAA or pay a fee.

You do not need to create an account in Maryland Outdoors to register.

There is limited time left for youth anglers to catch a tagged bass in Sharpsburg and Woodsboro Ponds to be entered to win a behind-the-scenes tour at the National Aquarium as part of the Youth Bass Bash Challenge. The challenge ends June 27.

Keep fishing those ponds, reporting tags, and join us for special bass bashes where winners will be announced.

Maryland Boaters—Due to the 2026 Pax River Air Show, the Maryland Natural Resources Police will establish a Boating Safety Enforcement Zone on the Patuxent River June 19-21 in the following area:

Hog Point 38°18'33.7"N 76°24'00.6"W to Drum Point 38°19'08.5"N 76°25'17.9"W
Myrtle Point 38°19'52.9"N 76°29'24.7"W to Navy Recreational Pier 38°19'59.7"N 76°28'48.2"W
All of Solomon's Harbor

Additionally, NRP, in coordination with the United States Coast Guard, will enforce the security zone at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River (33 CFR 100.501). All vessels are prohibited from entering the area bounded by the following coordinates at all times:

38° 18' 0" N, 76° 25' 25.02" W
38° 17' 39" N, 76° 25' 46.98" W
38° 17' 46.98" N, 76° 26' 0" W
38° 18' 9" N, 76° 25' 40.02" W

Season Reminder: Cobia fishing is open in the Chesapeake Bay and its tidal tributaries, as well as the Atlantic Ocean, Coastal Bays, and their tributaries, from June 15 to September 20.

Minimum size is 43 inches. Anglers may keep 1 cobia per person per day, or up to 2 cobia per vessel per day if there are 2 or more individuals on the vessel.
