Huge shoutout to Corporal Purdy for being named Employee of the Quarter at Jennifer Road Detention Center!

Corporal Purdy recently demonstrated the kind of exceptional vigilance that keeps our facility safe. While on shift, his sharp eye led to the discovery of a 14-inch metal wire hidden inside a broomstick. Instead of just reporting the find, Corporal Purdy took the initiative to track down the source. Through a diligent investigation, he matched the wire to a compromised shower door, revealing that the door had been tampered with and was missing multiple structural sections.

By "digging deeper," Corporal Purdy successfully removed a dangerous weapon from the housing unit and exposed a critical security vulnerability before it could lead to violence. His proactive mindset and commitment to our mission exemplify the very best of our department.

Thank you, Corporal Purdy, for your dedication to the safety of our staff and the inmate population!

Excellence in the Elements: Honoring Cpl. Robinson & Sgt. Blanton

During January's severe winter storms, two of our finest went above and beyond to ensure the safety and continuity of our operations.

Corporal Robinson: Recognized for his "professionalism and kindness" after personally de-icing the District Court Commissioner’s vehicle and parking area. His proactive initiative ensured our judicial partners remained safe and operational, earning a formal commendation from the District Court.

Sergeant Blanton: Led a grueling three-day snow-removal operation. By developing a strategic parking plan and working alongside maintenance to clear lots and walkways, his leadership prevented logistical bottlenecks and ensured staff safety under extreme conditions.

Both exemplify the highest standards of our Department. Thank you for your dedication to service!

Congratulations to Corporal Krieger for being selected as the Employee of the Quarter at Ordnance Road Correctional Center!

A 12-year veteran of the department, Corporal Krieger is the definition of dedication and teamwork. His quick thinking and professionalism were put to the ultimate test in February 2026. Upon finding an unconscious individual in extreme distress, Corporal Krieger didn't hesitate. He immediately took control of the scene, alerted medical staff, and administered life-saving Narcan doses while utilizing the recovery position.

Thanks to his decisive actions and calm under pressure, the individual made a full recovery.

Corporal Krieger, thank you for your unwavering commitment to safety and your incredible service to our community. We are proud to have you on the team!

Employees of the Year
We are incredibly proud to recognize two outstanding individuals from the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities for their exceptional service, bravery, and dedication to public safety.

Jennifer Road Detention Center: Lieutenant Bailey
Lt. Bailey’s keen eye and proactive mindset recently stopped a significant amount of narcotics from entering the facility. Through strategic surveillance and quick thinking, he played a vital role in keeping our staff and inmate population safe.

Ordnance Road Correctional Center: Sergeant Shreves
Sgt. Shreves is a true hero in every sense of the word. During a medical emergency, he jumped into action to save a life. He led the emergency response, performing 12 minutes of chest compressions and administering four shocks via an AED until EMS arrived. His composure under pressure and decisive action made all the difference.

Our team is made of the best, and these two exemplify the commitment and excellence we strive for every day. Thank you for your service!

Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Bailey for Employee of the Quarter at Jennifer Road Detention Center!

Lieutenant Bailey’s proactive thinking and strategic surveillance prevented a significant amount of narcotics from entering the Jennifer Road Detention Center.

Acting on intelligence, Lt. Bailey located concealed drugs in a lobby restroom. Rather than a simple recovery, he executed a surveillance operation that led to the discovery of 32 Suboxone strips. His continued diligence the following day led to the discovery of another 100 strips in the lobby restroom.

By disrupting this smuggling attempt, Lt. Bailey strengthened the safety and operational integrity of our facility. We commend his unwavering commitment to security!
