Former Mayor Michael Pantelides

Former Mayor Michael Pantelides Michael Pantelides is the 136th Mayor of Annapolis, MD

City Motto: Vixi Liber Et Moriar Mike Pantelides became the Mayor of Annapolis in December 2013.

During his time in office, Mayor Pantelides succeeded in improving public safety, stopping over development, helping the businesses community, fixing the city's budget to avoid tax rate increases, and creating an open and transparent government. He is a 3rd generation Annapolitan and lives in the city with his wife Alexandra and son Luca John. As a lifelong resident, Mike ran for Mayor because he

couldn’t stand to see how the city was being mismanaged and wasted your money. He has many accomplishments. Some legacy projects include building the Annapolis Renewable Energy Park, creating a plan to fix flooding, and the first Mayor to inspect public housing. He credits his success by bringing the community together and working in a bi-partisan fashion to help Annapolis. The Annapolis Renewable Energy Park is an award-winning solar energy park on the city's closed landfill with 54,000 solar panels; it created green jobs and will produce $4M revenue for the city over 20 years with no cost to the taxpayers. (https://solarflexrack.com/solar-flexrack-installed-in-the-2018-silver-project-of-the-year-winner-annapolis-solar-park/). For the first time in the city's history Mike created a comprehensive plan to fix flooding and successfully secured $1million in funding from state agencies. The city inspected all rental properties with the exception of those owned by the Housing Authority. This led to an unsafe and unequal living condition that Mike learned about by going door to door. 90% of residents are African American fixing this wasn’t just a legal issue, but a moral and civil rights issue. Mike demanded that they were inspected. After multiple inspections 2,500 violations were found. He successfully worked to fix many problems and held HACA accountable. Mike made public safety a priority from his first day in office. He was able to have the Annapolis Fire Department upgraded to a Class 1 Department and honor only 2 cities in Maryland have. Listening to the community with input from officers he implemented the city's first body camera program and started a community policing initiative. Mike is active in the community on many levels. He was appointed to serve on Governor Larry Hogan’s Workforce Development Board. He was also a board member of the 21st Century Education Foundation, the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Visitors Bureau, Part of County Executive’s Opioid Task Force, the Legislative Committee for the Maryland Municipal League, and is the past Vice Chair of the Baltimore Regional Transit board. Mayor Pantelides is also an Eagle Scout.

🗳️ City Election Results 🗳️

First, a big thank you to everyone who came out to vote and to all of the candidates. Running for office is never easy. It takes time, money, energy, and the courage to put yourself out there. Whether you won or lost, you should be proud for stepping up to serve our community. 👏

I know firsthand what it’s like to knock on hundreds of doors, spend thousands of dollars of your own money, and still come up short. It’s tough. But it’s also very rewarding because you meet amazing people, visit places in the city you may have never seen, and walk away with experiences that make you stronger. 💪

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing posts on important city issues and asking for your opinion. Some of the big topics on my list include:

🏗️ Redeveloping City Dock
⚖️ The HACA racial discrimination lawsuit
💰 Out-of-control spending and massive tax increases
🏘️ Development and how it shapes our neighborhoods
🚓 Public safety and how we can make our community safer for everyone

👉 I’d love to hear from you: what local issues do you want me to cover? Drop your thoughts in the comments ⬇️ or vote in one of the polls I’ll be posting soon.

Once again, thank you to every candidate who ran. You make our democracy stronger, and our community better for it.
