The City Of Annapolis

The City Of Annapolis City Motto: Vixi Liber Et Moriar - "I have lived, and I shall die, free" Welcome to Annapolis!

Founded in 1649, we celebrate 350 years as a city which offers a delightful combination of history and a zest for living. Walk along the old brick sidewalks much as George Washington or Thomas Jefferson did in the days when Annapolis was the Capital of the United States And amazingly, if you squint your eyes, you will see a city which looks remarkable similar to what our Founding Fathers saw in th

eir day. Architecturally, Annapolis boasts some of the finest 17th and 18th Century buildings in the country - including the residences of all four Maryland signers of the Declaration of Independence. Annapolis is the home of the United States Naval Academy founded in 1845 and also the home of St. John's College, founded in 1696 as King William's School and the third oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Stroll along our famed waterfront or sit at City Dock and imagine what Annapolis must have been during the 1700's, when the City was a bustling seaport with vessels sailing in to trade from all over the world. Or, watch sailboat races in the harbor and understand why Annapolis is America's Sailing Capital. Enjoy the many shops, restaurants, activities and scenery Annapolis has to offer. Take a sightseeing cruise or walking tour and learn more about why Annapolis is a great place to visit...or to call home!

City of Annapolis Assesses Damage From Late Friday Severe Weather

The City of Annapolis sent crews to assess damage and clear debris from City locations after severe storms hit the area late Friday. At this time, two families have been displaced after trees fell onto residential structures. No injuries have been reported. Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), as of 12 p.m. (noon), shows nearly 800 Annapolis customers remain without power.

The Annapolis Office of Emergency Management is coordinating the City’s response to this storm. The neighborhoods most severely impacted appear to be West Annapolis and Admiral Heights. Late Friday night, the Department of Public Works (DPW) sent cut and toss teams to clear downed trees from roadways to restore traffic patterns. DPW crews have completed a 12-hour overnight shift and will continue cleanup work in collaboration with BGE.

As a reminder, always assume any downed wire is live, deadly, and dangerous. Do not approach or touch trees or branches that are on or near downed power lines.

Where it is safe to do so, residents may move downed branches to the roadway to be picked up by DPW crews who will be working in the affected neighborhoods throughout the week. Also, the City’s yard waste/refuse vendor will remove branches and other yard waste on the regularly scheduled pickup day. Regular rules for pickups apply to the vendor pickups, including that items must be bagged and meet size limitations. Those details can be found on the City’s website: www.annapolis.gov/877/Yard-Trim-Collection. For larger branches and trees, homeowners may need to consult with professional tree removal services.

Annapolis Mayor Jared Littmann has been in touch with BGE governmental liaison officials and notes that some substations were damaged. “We understand that full restoration may take some time and appreciate the coordination between BGE and the City to ensure Annapolis residents and businesses can return to normal as soon as possible,” Littmann said.

The Annapolis Department of Planning and Zoning began their work at 7 a.m. Saturday to assess damage to properties. Most reports involve only minor damage. The public can report damage(with photos if available) to https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/60c7a4047e36471499da8aeac14a43ca.

The Annapolis Call Center is open at 410-260-2211 to answer non-emergency phone calls related to storm recovery. For emergencies, please call 9-1-1.
