Sometimes we can confidently say justice was served. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days.
The Supreme Court of Maryland’s ruling was disappointing, but hardly surprising. From day one, it appeared the fix was in and the outcome predetermined.
There was near universal agreement that the ballot language written by the majority party was misleading. Yet instead of removing the defective question, the Court rewrote it correcting the government’s work rather than holding it accountable.
When politicians ask Marylanders to amend their Constitution, they must follow the law not rely on the courts to repair their mistakes. Maryland’s Constitution belongs to the people, and they deserve an election process that is lawful, transparent, and fair.

Anyone else notice how quiet Maryland Democrats have been about losing the gerrymandering lawsuit? Then, almost on cue, the Meta settlement gives them a far more favorable headline to focus on. Whether coincidence or not, the timing certainly offers a convenient change of subject.

THE REAL COST OF CREATING A JOB
A $100,000 employee costs an employer far more than $100,000.
According to BLS data, benefits add roughly 43% on top of wages on average. That means a $100,000 salary can represent about $143,000 in total compensation before HR, recruiting, equipment, insurance, office space, training and other business overhead.
And the employee doesn’t take home $100,000 either. Taxes and payroll deductions significantly reduce that amount.
Now Maryland is adding FAMLI, another payroll expense shared by employees and many employers.
Each individual mandate may seem small, but they add up especially for small businesses and startups.
We should be making it easier and less expensive to create good paying jobs, not continually increasing the cost of creating them.

With all due respect, South Carolina’s election results are a good example of just how stupid some voters can be. Bless their hearts, but come on.
At some point, you have to wonder whether people are independently evaluating candidates their qualifications, experience, and positions or simply voting for a familiar name, a party label, or whatever they’ve been told to support.

Blind loyalty is not informed voting. Democracy requires more than simply showing up at the polls; it requires thinking critically about the people we entrust with public office. We should demand better from our candidates, but we should also demand better from ourselves as voters.

As a conservative, I will call out anyone—Republican or Democrat—when their actions hurt Americans, undermine our freedoms, or threaten our way of life. And I expect liberals to hold their own side to the same standard. Country and principles should always come before party.
