The NOVA Police Department is proud to introduce its new Police Cadet Program, a paid internship designed to help students take the next step toward a career in law enforcement. This initiative creates a clear pathway for those interested in criminal justice to gain real-world experience while continuing their academic journey.

The program is open to students who have successfully completed ADJ 100 with a grade of “C” or higher. Cadets will gain hands-on exposure to the day-to-day operations of a police department, building practical skills, establishing professional connections, and developing a deeper understanding of modern policing.

Selected cadets must commit to working 20 hours per week for a minimum of one year. This sustained engagement ensures participants receive meaningful, in-depth experience. Throughout the internship, cadets will support law enforcement operations and community safety initiatives while strengthening their professional competencies.

In addition to paid experience, students who successfully complete the program will earn three academic credits toward ADJ 290, making this opportunity both professionally and academically beneficial.

The NOVA Police Cadet Program reflects the department’s commitment to preparing the next generation of law enforcement professionals through mentorship, education, and hands-on training. For students looking to jump-start their careers in criminal justice, this program offers a valuable and practical foundation.

For more information regarding academic requirements, please contact Dr. Stephen Wofsey, Ph.D., NOVA’s Criminal Justice Discipline Chair and NOVA Police Cadet Program Liaison at [email protected]

To APPLY, please submit a letter of interest to Dysheria Turner at [email protected]. Additional information and application instructions will be provided to selected candidates.
